I guess for John and myself the Wye is attractively nearer but we will bow to the majority.

Steff - can I suggest the Youth Hostel in Cardiff, £17.50 per head + £2. 00 supplement per head for non YHA members. Cost includes breakfast and the possibility of meeting a large group of holidaying German girls. Very close to the best grayling fishing on the Taff and Gary Evans shop for permits. It's just over the road from an excellent Indian restaurant, the Juboraj, Roath Park, check the web reviews.
More importantly perhaps it's just a quick walk from a Brains pub which I can reccommend thoroughly as I've been drinking there for over 30 years with the occasional break. Not far from the Rhymney either.

I will go with the flow - however my preference would be premises where those who want to, have somewhere to tie flies.
Im not really fussed with going to the pub, id be happy with a few tinnies!

Diawlbach, I think that £20 for a youth hostel is pushing it and coming and going from the centre of Cardiff would be a pain the backside for those that don't know their way around. If we 'make camp' further North this should enable us to get to the rivers easier, whilst also enabling people traveling from further afield to find the accommodation without too much navigation. Hope this is ok. Feel free to bring some cans/bottles along.
A day on the Taff and a day on the Rhymney sounds the most suitable plan. If the Taff is up, which it often is at that time of the year, then we will fish both days on the Rhymney, which clears very quickly. Alternatively, we could have one day on the Irfon (Saturday), travel down to the accommodation, which should take around 30 minutes or so, then fish the rhymney on the Sunday? What does everyone prefer? The Irfon can be quite hard, as shoals tend to be quite sporadic, as such, I would recommend the Taff and Rhymney for the weekend.
As soon as we can confirm group size, location, and rivers to be fished we will sort out the formalities. I can pick up all permits prior to your arrival, which will make things easier and save a lot of time.
TT.

No worries Steff. The reason I favoured the YHA in Cardiff is it's proximity to the rivers, decent pubs and night life. Two of the hostels you've listed require a 60 mile round trip to get to the Cardiff area and back and as for Treharris...........
Anyway, good man for organising it, I'll go with the flow.

I'll go with the flow to. Personally I don't give a toss if there is no Pub within a 100 mile radius of base camp. I would much rather have a night in Fly tyeing, picking up some new tips and patterns of you lot ;D Plus I haven't got the money to p1ss it against the wall DAZ.

I would love to be with you lot, but i could not possibly make arrangements for January with the weather the way it can be here. i may not be able to get off the island, but i wish you all good luck. the evening fly tying sounds a real good idea, as Daz said great to see what others can do. ;D jealous, John P.

Two of the hostels you've listed require a 60 mile round trip to get to the Cardiff area and back If that were the case I think that you would make a good taxi driver If there were a suitable place around Caerphilly then that would be ideal, but I'm afraid that the above suggestions were the best I could find. I think that you have misunderstood the plan, as there wouldn't be any return trips to Cardiff. The plan would be: Meet up on the Taff on the Saturday, I will collect the permits in advance which will save time. Fish all day Saturday (we really need to be on the river between 12.30-3pm on both days, as this is when any hatches would be coming off - usually a flurry of olives on both rivers. Make sure to bring some pack lunch for both days). Then drive to Tredegar that evening, which will hold us in good stead for getting to the Rhymney the day after as it is only about 10 miles from Tredegar. Saturday evening; get some food, take-away, I can cook us something if there are facilities at our disposal, or we can get a pub meal - I don't mind either way. Then a night of fly-tying etc. Feel free to bring some beer, wine etc. Sunday; either cook something in the accommodation - if there are facilities, or get some brekkies on the way. Fish all day Sunday, or until you've had enough, on the Rhymney. Travel home Sunday afternoon. This is a rough plan of action, how does it sound to everyone? There may be changes closer to the date e.g. if the Taff is too high then we will have both days on the Rhymney etc. But that can all be sorted closer to the date. Total costs would be: accommodation £10-£15 Permits (£5x2) £10 (perhaps £11) TT.
