My Orvis Pro Guides have gone back to the nice Orvis people for replacement because they leaked but they're awaiting supplies of the 'new generation' of Pro Guides and don't expect to be able to replace them until 1st June. My neoprenes have also started leaking - so I needed new waders. I've heard very good reports of Cloudveil 8X and so I've ordered a pair at a very good price from Sierra Trading Post in the US. www.sierratradingpost.com/p/2248,97436_Cloudveil-8x-Premier-Breathable-Chest-Waders-Waterproof-Gore-Tex-Stockingfoot-For-Big-Men.html

I've heard very good reports of Cloudveil 8X That's what I'm currently using, so far so good. Very comfy, and are performing very well. Flashyal; Sierra trading is good, but expect to be wacked by customs charges - nearly 100% guaranteed. TT.

From these reports it looks like i will be investing in some Aquasure to patch up my old rubber chest waders for another season .Why dont they make a wader out of Aquasure it stops rips and leaks.I Was advised not to buy a pair of Orvis Breathables even though i had the money in my hand to pay . Can somebody tell me if breathables stop you from sweating on a warm night ,which leaves you soaked inside when you are walking the banks in rubber ect .

The non sweat build up thing is really the main point of breathables (my opinion) and they do this with varying levels of success.I havent had a lot of breathable waders but I have A LOT of experience of breathable fabrics in other garments. My experience is that nothing works as well as gore tex,you get what you pay for and you certainly pay for gore tex,but it does do the job and doesnt block up as quickly as others.Something to look out for when choosing stocking foot waders is the placement of the seams on the feet,a poorly thought out one can mean uncomfortable, miserable nights.Orvis, well theres lots on here know ALL about them so I'll leave that one...! PS ...these witch waders, are they magic,or are they used for wading through witches? ;D ;D

Hi, Gore Tex, neoprene, rubber, and other man made fabrics all make you sweat depending on the temperature and the degree of exertion while wearing them. Chest waders are priced according to the quality of fabric their made of, whether breathable, resistant to rips and tears etc, and a bit added on for the logo. The good thing is, no matter what you pay for them, they should all have one thing in common, they should be waterproof!
A While back in my naive days, I used Ocean sea waders which were given to me. I do a lot of walking across hills from loch to loch and difficult river banks. I can recommend anyone wishing to loose a few pounds, stick these on and start walking. I appreciate they were not designed for this purpose.
I have used Loop waders for the last five seasons and they are breathable material, they are very comfortable, roomy and light. Tear resistant, brambles, barbed wire etc. I stick them in the washing machine on low temperature once a year and they come out like new, and I would recommend them to anyone. I am very demanding on my waders as I wear them a lot, I have not had to carry out any repairs in five years and should I have to, those nice people at Loop kindly supplied a repair kit with them. I still sweat a bit but not nearly so much as I did with the ocean brand.
I also bought the loop wader boots with felt soles. I have never been good at the triple salko, pirouette etc but I have endured these slippery boots long enough and nearly come a cropper many times on slimy rocks and river beds and so on. The Loop boots with felt sole, I do not recommend.
This year I have replaced the boots with SIMM guides, cleated and felt soles so I am hopeful that I will be able to get a grip and my dancing days are over at least I hope not to be dancing quite so often while fishing.
Hope this has been helpful on the topic?
Willie

Cloudveil have a good name, though i have never used them. Vision extreme are very light and breathable. Simms gortex classic guides are also very good but they have a thicker sock and the waders are more heavy duty. Both are very breathable out of water, nothing will breathe when you are in water.

Im new to computers so i dare not comment on the word witch,i have got a Wychwood Gortex wadeing jacket ,but i have not risked it in the wash.I Have a gortex Yorkshire Fishing coat ,i put that in the washer and the rain gets through it ever since. The hood which i have never put through the wash ,does not let water in. Last couple of seasons i have been filling a laundry powder stocking up with lavender from the garden and i put that in my smelly old waders .Cures the damp smell expecially when you leave them in the car instead of on the washing line.

You have to be extremely carefull when washing 'breathable' materials in a washing machine. Firstly, you must run your machine empty on its hottest cycle to try and purge any traces of detergent from the machine - detergent is death to breathable. Safer to run two hot cycles. You can then wash your breathables (very gentle, cold cycle) using a proprietry liquid cleaner - www.jackson-sports.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=966and then the occasional - www.jackson-sports.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=711

To Paul, When i got my Yorkshire Jacket they were just comeing onto the market. I Think it was about 1986-7 ,I was told that if i used the wrong powder <i have forgot the name>. Anyway as this is about waders i am still undecided ,but the good thing is they are becoming more affordable.I have not had to wash the Wychwood but thank you for the advice.<lochbois>

Hi Paul D,
Good advice. Read the attached label for recommended washing instructions and dont't forget to wash out the drawer where the fabric softner and powder cloggs up, as I am sure you will all know.
I use Grangers pure soap cleaner as recommended by the manufacturer for waders and Touchstone wading jackets which are made of Texturised Polyester, laminated with a water vapour - permeable polyurethane membrane and flurocarbon proofed. Whatever that is, they only get washed once a year. I don't require to re-waterproof them with anything as the material is waterproof as long as there are no holes. One of my wading jackets is now in it's eighth year of service and still keeps out all that Scottish weather can throw at it. Touchstone went out of business a few years back. I was lucky enough to find a small shop in Ballater Scotland that still had a few and managed to buy another. Although expensive, they were on sale the day my wife bought it while I was fishing. Well done Julia!
Lochbois - Time to invest in a replacement that Yorkshire jacket has seen it's best days!
Rio - quite right, Only fish breath in water.
Willie

Normally, you've annoyed someone before 10pm......... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Crockski, Made me LOL. But you're right - I'm rapidly learning how sensitive people can be on this forum. I'm not really that annoying in real life !! Honest ! Lochbois, What I said was meant as a joke (hence the smiley). If it needs explaining then the joke's not funny. I don't wish there to be any further misunderstanding. Best wishes, BC.
