I'm off to Dartmouth that day. However, I am hoping to get over for an hour or two, depending on kick-off time.

Good news to report!!
Had a sniff and a shake at the sloe vodka this morning, and it's looking good for the gatherings!!
That's all there is left do decide on now is; does every fish get toasted? Rude not to I hear you say? ;D

Sounds good to me Steffan, purely out of respect for the fish of course - shall I book a couple of beds in Accident and Emergency now or shall we just take a chance on the day!

Rivers are looking good for next week, hope you have all been busy tying up those nymphs! Diawlbach; I think booking a ward would be more appropriate Madcaster; your comment about toasting the grayling reminded me of a group of anglers I met in the Czech Republic this summer. They had formed a group named 'GGG' - Grill the Grayling Group ;D They made me a member and gave me a t-shirt, I'll try and dig it out for next week. Looking forward to seeing you all then. Any more takers for the first gathering? It's just a gathering of like-minded people having a splash about, more the merrier. Best wishes, Steff.

Greetings fellow grayling hunters, hope you're feeling fit and ready for the off! I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday and Fridays expeditions and trust we can find some time after (or even during) the fishing to enjoy a couple of drinks to pass away the long nights.
The Taff and Rhymney are down to summer levels after a very dry period but they're moving at a good pace and are rather more crystal clear than I'd like. I'll call up to Gary Evans today to see how they're fishing - if anyone has managed to drag themselves away from the festivities that is.
Top temp tomorrow is predicted to be a steamy three degrees and a seasonal fall of slete is on the cards - great, bring some gloves!

The Mini meeting in Cardiff was another great weekend. Steff and Diawlbach fished the Taff on Thursday and had over 30 grayling between them, most over 30cms! All on the fly. Diawlbach had most of his on a great fly, an orange bug, however the fly is extremely difficult & time consuming to tie. I think its best if he explains the dressing The Family Diawlbach were again great hosts, with plenty of drink, good food and chat...right into the early hours. Steff and his girlfriend Talis (hope ive spelt it right) and Tuniwes were great comapny. Saturday saw us hit the Taff again....after having a look round Gary Evans tackle shop (good job i dont live in Cardiff), Then to the river. Unfortunately it was 2ft up on the previous day, coloured and rising.....Diawlbach had a fish first cast, then nothing, the rest of us blanked. We did see a couple of salmon in the river, which is a good sign. TP joined myself, Tuniwes and Diawlbach in the afternoon, and we had a nice afternoon at Canada Lakes, we all caught fish, however TP showed us all how it was doen, i think she was well into double figures by the time we left, perhaps 3.5hrs later. A top weekend, looking forward to the next one Hoppy

Got up to a freezing cold day in Cardiff on Thursday, ice on the pick up cover........... a pattern in the ice caught my eye, could this be a portent of good fortune for the grayling fishing, could I freeze it and sell it on ebay, could I just just get on with this thread ...... Picked up Steff who conveniently has a girlfriend just down the way and off to an extremely cold River Taff, the margins stayed iced up all day............ I started fishing down and accross while Steffan chose the Czech approach. Several minutes and several fish to Steffan later.................. .............I was given a quick primer on bugging and proceeded to catch a grayling within a couple of minutes, the first of many, thanks for that Steff. The Taff was really on form and we had a pleasant but extremely cold day finding the shoals of grayling. Eventually we had well over thirty fish between us, Steff had about two to every one I caught. All the fish I had were over three quarters of a pound, my best was about a pound and a quarter and full of fight after being hooked in a fast deep run................. The orange bug Hoppy referrs to couldn't be easier to make, a size 10 Kamasan B110 with 5 small orange beads slid on and held fast with a bit of fluoro pink thread, takes about two minutes.................. Snow started falling and by about four we had really had enough weather despite the sloe gin warmers. It was a real pity that rain in the night wrecked the chances for Friday on the Taff but it was great to see Hoppy, TP and Tuniwes and have another day out fishing in good company. Looking forward to the next one.

I had a really fun day, thanks to Colin and Paul for rescuing the day when we couldn't fish the river. It was a very lucky day for me, wish I'd bought a lottery ticket! T.P.

By God you gave me and tuniwes a thorough drubbing last Friday TP, thank goodness a couple of suicidal trout turned up to save our blushes. The fish seemed to be tagging you and hoppy all day, Ian and I couldn't believe it, you may have heard us grinding our teeth! That's the joy of fishing I suppose.
Friday was a terrible day weather wise though, probably the worst day's weather I've ever fished through - only too pleased to get back to a blazing fire.
