Chris Mills, Director of Environment Agency Wales, has handed over £1,000 each to Tenovus and WaterAid following a charity auction held at the Agency’s annual Christmas party.
· A £1,000 donation to Wateraid can pay for the complete costs of building a 15 metre well, including a £500 Nira handpump to benefit 500 people in Tanzania.
· A £1,000 donation to Tenovus can provide emergency grants for five cancer patients.
Key partners from the Welsh Assembly Government, local authorities and representatives from industry and environmental organisation attended the event.
All the lots were environmentally friendly and included items such as: spending the day with the mountain rescue team at the Brecon Beacons; a variety of fishing experiences; and taking part in the Llanerch Vineyard’s Saturday Kitchen.
All the lots auctioned were kindly donated by organisations based in Wales.
Chris Mills, Director of Environment Agency Wales, commented: “This is the second year we have organised this auction to raise money for these two very worthwhile charities. Last year we raised over £1000. I am delighted we have doubled our total this time around.
“We work throughout the year to improve the environment for people to experience and enjoy the outdoors in Wales. It is good to be able to help in other ways too.”
Anne Pash, Fundraising Manager at Tenovus, said: “Tenovus are delighted to have once again received a most generous donation from Environment Agency Wales. As Wales’ leading cancer charity we need every penny to continue our vital work into further research and patient support. Thank you one and all.”
Holly Sisley, a WaterAid representative, said: “WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to providing safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the poorest people in the world. We are delighted to have received this most generous donation from Environment Agency Wales, which could go a long way to improve the lives of some of the poorest communities in the world.”
