From EAW: Three netted for illegal fisheries activities in Fishguard During the early hours of last Friday morning (1 June) enforcement Officers from Environment Agency Wales apprehended a group of three men fishing illegally with a net in the sea at Fishguard. Two of the men were local and the third was from Newport,Pembrokeshire.
This successful enforcement action was the result of a covert surveillance operation targeting the illegal removal of salmon and sea trout. In this instance a number of sea trout and sea fish including bass were recovered from the net that was being used.
All three men have been reported on summons for offences under the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 and under local sea fishery bylaws.
Dafydd Williams, Agency Enforcement Team Leader said: ‘The protection of vulnerable fish stocks is one of the Agency’s key objectives. The prosecution of these offenders will hopefully act as a deterrent to others, and send out a clear message that we regard illegal netting activities as a serious matter.’
