Today was my first visit to the Monnow and it would be hard to find a nicer one in which to fish for grayling or trout! The weather felt more like Spring than mid-February. It was a perfect day....a perfect setting, perfect water...everything..trout popping up everywhere...and a few grayling about, which were the quarry... My grateful thanks to Tigermoth, for allowing me to be his guest for the day, also for such great company... .....Oh, and I caught my first ever grayling!......(about 2 lbs.) ...Some pics. of the day (please pardon poor quality-had camera on wrong setting...)

We had a wonderful day under the Black Mountain yesterday. Hopefully I will get around to posting a few more pictures later. Tim also has a few piccies. Nice to see the rod-bending pic David! Yesterday, I took receipt of my new 7ft 6 4wt cane rod, courtesy of Watermole. It is a thing of rare quality and complete soul. I will post a few piccies and a few words of appreciation soon. How to do it justice.... BTW, it might not look it in the pics as WM's landing net is a fair old size, but that grayling was a full two pounder. Not bad for your first lady

Ok.... A few more piccies and words from sunday's jaunt with David and Tim... Haven't felt much like fishing recently, just as well, the weathers been cr*p and the rivers downright dangerous and uninviting. This weekend promised something better though. Sharp frosts, clear skies and warm afternoon sunshine. All the classic ingredients for a February grayling trip. This particular jaunt was made all the more special by the bankside company of Watermole. The choice of venue: Pandy and the Honddu/Monnow confluence. A bad hangover on sunday morning following the rugby at Kingsholm meant I was late, but we soon got down to the river and in amongst some fish. The water fished really well with TDA soon into some good fish and of course WM landed an absolute cracker for his first grayling after Tim had sorted him out with a likely looking spot. All in all a marvellous day. Great company and super fishing, a good few ladies were supplemented by some early and unseasonable brownies who looked like they had overwintered very well indeed. Here's a few piccies: "Cock-on" as they say around these parts Back he goes... Tim unhooks another plump grayling: Watermole lurking in the shadows: The last cast: Have to say, today really got me in the mood...... to use my beautiful new 7ft 6 4wt cane rod, hand crafted by the wizard hands of WM himself. Pics to follow when I have some to do his handiwork justice.
