Yesterday was a disaster for me, ripped G3's, but worse was that the river i intended to fish was out! I tried some of the tiny Marches rivers, the Upper Severn, The Tannat and the Rea Brook - all were too high to fish. GUTTED
Last night i checked the gauge on the Dee - it was 982 - well above summer level, and realistically not worth fishing. This morning it was 922 - so it had dropped a little, but still far too high.
I spoke with GraylingHunter first thing and he was on the river, he said it was high and coloured, but may be worth a cast or two.
After the previous day, anything was worth a go - so the Dee it was.
On mine and swimswims arrival Graylinghunter was well up the beat, and on our walk up - i feared the worst, bank high and dirty - plus it was raging through. We thought it was out, and that by 1 o'clock we'd be home.
When we reached GHunter, he had already had 2 small fish - and was happy that he had caught, and saved a blank.
It was worth ago, however the flow was so fast that wading was restricted to one bank, and for about 10ft from the bank.
I had a few small fish in the first section, it was looking up!
Then connected to a proper Dee fish - this one a measured 40cms
Another fish followed in the same spot, this one 41cms.
Swimswim and Ghunter were also catching, but i seemed to be doing better with the bigger girls. However it wasn't long before swimswim hooked into a torpedo, that swiftly took line from the reel before getting away - god knows what it was but it was big!
Ghunter then found form and took 2 good fish in a few casts. 40cms fish
Swimswim also joined the 40cms club
It was a good little session, very difficult wading and fairly windy. We tried a section further upstream, but the current was such that the normal lies were inaccessible.
So back down stream, where i managed another 40cms girl!
The fish seemed a little more reluctant on this pass, and we gradually worked down river.
We found one other fishable stretch, that yielded my best of the day, and put up a hell of a scrap on the Zr2! A conservative 44cms!
This was a really deep fish, this picture shows its size better as she goes back.
Graylinghunter connected with a few more in this run
So at the end of the day i had managed 16 fish, 4 over 40cms.
Swimswim had 4 with 1 40cms - plus a monster lost
Graylinghunter had numerous, with 3 fish over 40cms.
A bloomin good effort considering awful conditions!
Last knockings
A few more photos of beautiful Dee fish!! ;D
All my fish, and swimswim's came to a pink bug, which at the moment is really doing the bizz!!!
A great day ;D ;D
