Had a great day out with Tigermoth and his friend Tim today, on a lovely stretch of the Severn. Whilst the fishing wasn't as good as it had been, we all caught - Tigermoth having the best of the action - with Grayling and some beautiful wild Browns. Anyway one of todays fish...Tigermoth - the smile says it all. I'm sure Tim and TM will post some more fish pics later ;D Hoppy ;D

Certainly was a very interesting days fishing!! We had to work hard for our fish, but the rewards were there. Depends on how you define 'best of the action' I think I would have traded numbers for quality. You know how when you catch a big fish, you get rather excited, well the two fish that Tim & Hoppy caught today just left them glazed over Tim's fish went 47cm and Hoppy's was 50cm on the dot, measured with a tape - the biggest grayling I've seen in the flesh. Here's Hoppy's fish: and a shot that really shows off it's size:

Well done guys, some nice fish & photos there.
I have never fished for grayling before, never considered it untill the last few weeks. I live in Carmarthenshire so I have options to going to Mid Wales or The Taff quite easily really. Guess I will be looking for a 5 weight rod soon !!
Any advice on rod, lines & where to fish?

Hi Leighton, If you are up this way before the season finishes you can obtain a day ticket for the Rhymney river quite easily(Tonys tackle Caerphilly).Give me a call and if I am not working ,will try and sought a date out.
Sewinfly.

Hi Leighton, I am by no means as proficient an angler as some on here but I manage. This is how: I like to fish for grayling either on the dry or on the single nymph. I am not much good at bugging and to be homest I like the feel of slinging a line around. So, my rod length/set-up will be governed by the size of the river I am fishing. Anything from a 7ft 3wt to a 9ft 5wt. My go to set up will tend to be a goldhead nymph fished 2.5 to 3ft below a nice buoyant dry, something like a balloon caddis. If fish are rising then ditch the nymph. I like to keep it simple. TT is an exceptionally accomplished angler when it comes to grayling (or anything else for that matter!) and he can offer much better advice than I can - particulalry when it comes to bugging. As to where to fish, check out the Taff, Rhymney and many of the Wye Usk FOundations waters. THis site also has a fair amount of useful info: www.graylinghunter.co.uk/Best Dave

Hi Sewinfly & Tigermoth, Many thanks for your replies & info. I probably wont get round to getting out now before the start of the new season, but this is definately something i will give a go next winter. I was thinking of purchasing a 9ft 5wt rod for brown trout fishing, Im going to do a bit on the brownies this year as I am off to Alberta, Canada for three weeks of fishing for brownies up to 30 inches long, come September.
Many thanks again.
Tight lines,
Leoghton.
