Grim reading for my local river The Mawddach. What do the figures in brackets indicate Gethyn ?

It's pretty grim all round. The only hope is that these are just provisional and there are a few more returns come.
Most rivers had roughly the same salmon catch as in the previous four or five years but the Wye is showing just 378 salmon - an all time low by about 40%. Hopefully as the Wye returns generally come from fishery returns rather than angler's individual returns and some of these are maybe yet to come in.
For sewin the picture is a worrying one with all rivers showing catches that were around 45% lower than in 2005 and the Mawddach is down to just about a quarter of the 2005 figure.
The figure in brackets indicates the number of fish returned.

Wnion, its more worrying that the Wnion doesn't even feature! Im sure that between us we can give a figure of how many Salmon were caught and taken in the last few months, between Bryncoedifor and Rhydimain!
If im honest i was suprised by how many sea trout were caught from the Mawddach, i had 1, little Steve 5! It would be interesting to see where all these fish were from, because i certainly didn't hear of them!
Im glad to see the C&R figures for the Dysinni!

Sure those figures are no good. They're all those foreign rivers with the funny strange typos in the names. Fingers x'ed it's just like the last census and they'll be revising them upwards for the next two years or so. Mind you, there was some awful dry weather last year and loads of EA pressers about pollution incidents if you rummage back through. Like I say fingers crossed for the final numbers. It could be you've all not been out enough, as you've been on the internet talking about fishing

Hoppy The figures for the Wnion will be included with the Mawddach count , they stopped classing it as a separate river a few years ago. It is now classed as a tributary of the Mawddach. Lets hope there will be a few more when the EA have processed the late catch returns.

These figures are based on catch returns by licence holders during the return period and after the reminders were sent out, therefore they are not expected to be changed greatly by any very late data. All Licence Holders should make an effort to send their returns in good time, this is the only data that can be used to give the figures in the Rod Return presented by the Environment Agency, Fishery returns can not be taken as there would be an obvious duplication.
Hi Wnion, they are the fish that were released.

If you contact the EA they should be able to give you the Wnion figures, I do this with the Elwy which is included in the Clwyd for the published stats but I am always able to get the Elwy numbers wihtin that total by emailing Richard Cave.
