In a crackdown on illegal fishing activity on the River Teifi, Environment Agency Wales officers yesterday caught another man illegally netting in the river in Cardigan. Three people were caught illegally netting in the same area only last week (6.09.06).
The Agency will now consider all four incidents and will take appropriate enforcement action against those involved.
Following the successful operation, Dafydd Williams, Agency Team Leader, Environmental Crime said:
'The Teifi is a significant fishery and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), salmon being one of the main designated species within this. The river is currently meeting its spawning targets, however this could be put at risk by illegal netting activity.'
While individuals continue in their illegal activities we will continue to do everything in our power to bring them to justice. We will continue to undertake regular patrols, along with intelligence led covert operations to protect, conserve and enhance this fishery.'
POACHING IS NOT ON THE INCREASE ACCORDING TO THE EA!!!!!
