Martin Salter – the Parliamentary Spokesman on Angling and Shooting, and MP for Reading West – rejoined the Anglers’ Conservation Association (ACA) in August, after his membership lapsed under the previous management. A keen fisherman himself, Martin believes that the new team is doing a great job in developing the organisation to combat water pollution, and that all anglers and angling clubs should support its work.
The MP signed his membership form on the banks of the River Wye after meeting with the Chairman, Executive Director and Senior ACA Solicitor. He then went on to fish for chub and barbel on the Wye. (High resolution digital photos are available.)
Martin said: "The ACA does an incredible job on behalf of anglers and indeed everybody else who cares about the waterside environment. Every serious angler and every responsible angling club the length and breadth of Britain should be a member of the ACA. I am delighted to be renewing my own membership as a public vote of confidence in the new management team which is taking this fine, pollution-busting organisation from strength to strength."
Stephen Marsh-Smith, Chairman of the ACA said: “We are delighted that Martin Salter, along with so many other people, has rejoined the ACA. Martin is a passionate supporter of angling in government and has a well deserved reputation for successfully fighting those issues that beset our fisheries and sport. We hope that this public renewal of his subscription will inspire others to contribute just £20 a year to support the only non-government organisation which uses the law to prevent damage to our fisheries from pollution, over-abstraction, river works and fish disease.”

Notes to Editors:
· The ACA was founded in 1948 with the purpose of using the law to fight to protect the aquatic environment and fisheries.
· Since that time, the ACA has won in excess of two thousand cases and recovered many millions of pounds in damages, which is returned to the members the ACA represents to plough back into angling and the protection of the aquatic environment.
· Throughout our history, we have lost only three cases at trial. At any one time, we have about sixty cases in progress as well as giving clubs and anglers legal support and advice across the entire range of angling matters.
· In 2006 so far, the ACA has settled 10 cases and advised over 100 clubs on legal matters.
· Clubs or riparian owners wishing to join the ACA should phone 01568 620447 during office hours or download a subscription form from the web site: www.a-c-a.org
· The ACA’s Annual Report is available on request.
