A new community fishery near, Llyn Fridd Y Bwlch, near Blaenau Ffestiniog was officially opened on Saturday 5 August by Elfyn Llwyd MP for Merionydd Nant Conwy. Environment Agency Wales in partnership with the Cambrian Angling Association also held an Angling Participation event, attended by over 30 children, young people and their families.
The first visitors enjoyed an excellent day of angling tuition given by Trevor and Enid Edwards, Senior Coaches from the Federation of Welsh Anglers. Many of the young anglers were able to take home a trout for supper, which added to their enjoyment of the day.
The development of this facility was made possible by the dedication and commitment of Mel and members of the Cambrian Angling Association, supported by Mark Roberts of Civil Engineering Solutions Limited.
Ken Parry, Sustainable Fisheries Project Officer, Environment Agency Wales shows youngsters some of the small creatures that live in the water environment.
The Mayor of Blaenau Ffestiniog, Dafydd Lloyd Hughes welcomed Elfyn Llwyd MP, who said:
'I am pleased to be associated with a project that will bring both pleasure and benefit to the local community. I have close connections with the local community and know how valuable the fishing assets are. The work of the angling association, in maintaining these assets is much appreciated..'

The £24,000 Sustainable Fisheries Project funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and administered by Environment Agency Wales, has created the opportunity for funding improvements to existing fisheries to benefit local community and the wider public. The Snowdonia National Park and the Aggregates Levy Sustainable Fund for Wales also contributed financially.
