Environment Agency Wales held a weeklong rod licence blitz recently (starting 17 June) in West Wales. Our officers targeted specific areas, which were suspected of having problems with illegal fishing activities.
During the operation, which took place in the Lower Tawe area and Neath Port Talbot, our officers checked 169 anglers and 158 of them produced a valid rod licence. 11 of the anglers checked were fishing illegally.
This operation builds on similar rod licence blitzes conducted over the May bank holiday period when our officers checked rod licences at 30 fisheries. We will conduct similar operations in West Wales throughout the year.
Dafydd Williams, Environmental Crime team leader with the Agency said: “Environment Agency Wales takes offences of this nature very seriously and will take enforcement action against all offenders identified this week and in all forthcoming operations.”
