Fishing without a licence in Rossett
Anthony Hampshire of Wordsworth Crescent, Blacon, Chester was ordered to pay a total of over £200 in fines and costs for three fisheries offences in a case brought by Environment Agency Wales at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court On 25 May 2006.
He was seen fishing without a rod licence on the Afon Alyn at Rossett Weir on 23 October2005:
He was: · Fined £40 for Fishing without a licence. Section 27(a) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975. · Fined £50 for taking trout in close season. Section 19(4)(b) of the above Act. · Fined £50 for fishing within a restricted area of Rossett Weir. Byelaw 13(a)(v). · Ordered to pay costs of £70.
The case was proved in his absence. Following the case an Agency spokesperson commented: 'The income from rod licence sales is re-invested in improvements to fisheries. Those who seek to avoid paying for a licence are depriving their fellow anglers of this much-needed income. Fishing regulations such as the close season exist to protect fish stocks for all anglers. Our enforcement officers will continue to carry out checks, and we will prosecute offenders as necessary. '
