"Following the case, an Environment Agency Crime Team Leader commented: ‘We feel the level of fine in this instance reflects the seriousness of the crime.Taking fish in this way has a detrimental environmental impact on the sustainability of the fishery. We take a serious view on this type of offence and will always seek to take enforcement action.’" So even the EA realise that poaching has a detrimental environmental imapct on the sustainability of fisheries...so why do we have about 4 bailiffs, on arguably Wales's finest Salmon River...the Dee Wake up and smell the coffee! A Serial poacher eh! And we don't have a poaching problem in Wales. This strikes me as a bit of a contradiction in terms. Come on EAW admit there is a problem with poaching and you have an obligation to address the issue.
Hoppy, forgive me but there are only 8 (following the loss of another 2) enforcement officers for the whole of North Wales, so I suspect the Dee will be lucky to see one very often, and then more likely to be in the estuary.
