The following was emailed to me by Andy Schofield a senior officer in the Environment Agency Wales. He has asked me to post this comment in response to Greyduster's comments, which I am pleased to do but saddened at the need.
Comment starts
I was appalled by the comments of 'Greyduster' and others in relation to the appointment of a female officer on the river and feel that there is no place for such prejudiced, sexist and bigoted comments in the Agency or any other organisation (or even on the forum for that matter - given that it undermines what you are striving to achieve) The fact that the comments are made by someone hiding behind a pseudonym should be no excuse.
What amounts to almost a personal attack on one of our officers is completely unjustified particularly when the person concerned is extremely competent and a credit to our organisation. Perhaps this is what 'Greyduster' is concerned about in that he/she can't accept that we are a modern organisation making progress and that our actions in response to customer concerns undermine his/her agenda.
We are trying to make improvements in the service that we provide, at the start of the Review process one of the concerns was that we had no-one on the Dee. We will shortly have three officers covering the river. Whilst this might not satisfy everyone hopefully most will see it as a step in the right direction.
Comment ends.
When asked to post comments from Andy Schofield, which I do with pleasure, I usually do so without comment for reasons that are, I hope, obvious. In this case I should like to say that I find it refreshing for a manager, any manager, to be taking a stand on behalf of a member of his team.
Regards.
