I thought it might be a nice idea to support or help at this time of year.
30th November 2007
I hope you will forgive me for writing to a complete stranger (although I believe we may have a common interest in Angling). This is not a mass circular or junk email. I get many such letters and they are usually consigned to the rubbish bin! However, Very occasionally, perhaps even rarely, you get an appeal for help that seems worth a second look and I have done this with a charity called Second Chance and have been so impressed with it that, as you will see, I have become involved in supporting them. And I am now chairman of The Second Chance Childrenâs Charity.
I am convinced that this charity is worthy of support and hope you might view this email in the same way, especially as we have something in common in the pursuit of Angling. It was the unique use of this medium that first attracted me to this charity. So, as an angler I think you will be interested to read about the work of the charity, if nothing else.
The Second Chance Charity was founded 23 years ago by a Special School teacher, in West London, England. He had a vision of delivering practical and relevant, no nonsense help to young people. Since then the charity has grown and although based in Portsmouth (Hampshire), its interests are national. It works with children who have either been abused, come from a deprived background or have learning difficulties and specialises in children that have slipped through the net. It works in a rather unique and original way and has a startling success rate in transforming the quality of the young peopleâs lives and altering the direction that they are taking in a very positive way.
The charity is financed entirely by voluntary subscription and relies on people like us to support them. At the moment they have a large capital appeal to purchase extra facilities for their work, this can be viewed at www.second-chance.org.uk/index.php?pid=news&nid=13 You might like to consider supporting this appeal, even if only in a small way or by contributing to the day to day running of the organisation.
For more information, please visit their website at www.second-chance.org.uk
I am sure the Chief Executive of the charity Douglas Hulme, would be delighted to furnish you with more information if you wanted it (Tel: 0044 (0)2392 872790, Email: second.chance@ukonline.co.uk)
I do so hope you can join me in supporting this worthwhile cause.
Yours sincerely
