Guys, just had some last minute info from the lodge on the Rio Grande. Some last minute trips to make note of, that may be of interest:
March 16 to 23: 6 vacancies March 23 to 30: 4 vacancies
16-23 is due to a cancellation (not one of mine), and is a TOP week for the river!
Costs: Fishing Rio Grande + Lakes, 7 days: 7 days fishing, 7 nights lodge accommodation – full board, all inclusive. Includes; fully guided, transfers from Rio Grande town, all food and drink. Also included; hotel accommodation in Buenos Aires (up to 2 nights) and Rio Grande (as required), so that there aren’t any hidden extras to account for. Total cost of the package, per person: £1,999.99
In addition, just had a quick look at the fights, and they haven't gone up that much, surprisingly! Return from London to Buenos Aires is £600.
Let me know asap as the lodge owners have released the dates to me in advance of everyone else, so I would need to act fast to secure them for you.
TT.

Hoppy/Steff,
If you lads could kindly organize a whip round to fund this and also negotiate a few days holiday off for me with my Boss I would be more than happy to take a trip to the Rio Grande, if its not possible I understand, and will just have to go back to sleep and dream on. ;D

What would the expected bag be? Hi Paul, the details are much the same as those I supplied you with for the March trip. The fishing is in the middle reaches of the Grande; equivalent of Llandeilo on the Towy or Llandysul on the Teifi. It’s around 35 miles up from the sea - The entire river is about 150 kilometres long. Less than half of that is on the Argentina side of the Chilean border. In style, the river is very similar to the Towy, as some of the photos may indicate. The river is very easy for the fish to navigate, and you will get extremely fresh fish on the beats – as the photos from last year’s trip indicates. We have over 20 miles of fishing at our disposal! In addition; numerous lakes, which are a must see. Basically we can fish right down to the Argentine border – we actually fish within sight of the border. The beats of the Grande that we will fish are a lot less susceptible to coloured water, unlike some of the beats further downstream. As such, we are unlikely to be affected by high water. The Upper river in Chile is much more convoluted in its course than it is in the lower reaches and there are many hills which protect it from the severe winds. It certainly can be windy in Tierra del Fuego but on the Chilean side there are always pools which are sheltered to some extent and there are also some groves of trees which help to break the wind. As for the expected bag, very hard to predict I'm afraid, after all they're wild fish. It's certainly not shooting rats in a barrel, but you should have some 5 hook-ups each a day if you fish well, some days more some days less. Here's a couple of reports I found from Feb/March 2007: Last week of Feb (8 anglers): "Our group of 8 caught about 150 fish in 6 days, with 3 over 20 lbs., the largest (23 lbs)". 10-17 March (one angler): "10 fish over 15 lbs, largest 21 and 20 lbs" I think this gives some indication, but there's no guarantees, of course. In addition, there's always the lakes! Where sport is almost guaranteed! One lake will produce browns no smaller than 3lbs! With others holding browns, rainbows and brook charr. Hope that helps. Steffan.

That's great news, thanks Paul. There are now two 100% for the 16-23rd March, and another maybe/hopefully. It would be great to have a party of 4 for the week of 16-23 March - there's still availability if there's any further interest: Steffan@anglingworldwide.comIn addition, I will still be at the lodge for that week as they have asked me to stay on to research some new waters ok, if I have to! As such, I will on call throughout your stay at the lodge. Best wishes. TT.

Am already booked in for 9th feb. Hopefully photos will follow. Laststraw I take it Nick's photos proved too much for you? Are you going to be fishing there with Nick? sadly I will be missing you by 2 days on your return in Buenos Aires - would have loved to have seen his set too. Good luck anyway. Steffan.

Hi Steffan,Guess we are talking about the same NW in the EMB party. We have a cameraman on this trip and Hardys have even trusted us with a couple of Double handed rods, so no excuses if we fail to produce a bit of decent video footage and photos .I gather the river lower than normal last week but seatrout still creeping up .Where have we heard this talk before?

The one and only NW ;D he didn't get over for the woodcock this winter sadly, but I hope to catch up with him this summer. Have sorted myself out with a new Guideline LPXE for the trip - the new 4 piece rods are due to hit the UK next week by all accounts, so looking forward to testing mine. They're not as critical up where we fish, as it's not as wide and not as windy as EMB, but should be a laugh for a change from the single hander. You'll have a top time, and will undoubtedly catch fish. Give Nick my regards. Good luck and please give us an update upon your return. Steff.
