For more details please visit www.bffi.co.uk/index.htm“The British Fly Fair International is that rare thing, an event that is informed, yet informative; classy, yet not pompous. It is, quite frankly, the best of its type and run by people who know fly fishing. It is without doubt something that every fly fisher – let alone fly tier should have chiseled into their diary. Be there!” Charles Jardine. Practicing fly fisher and convivial buffoon. Hoppy

This year was the first time that I have attended this prestigious event and I can honestly say that, yesterday (Saturday) was one of the most enjoyable days out in a very long time!
There was so much to see, so much to buy, so many people to talk to that the day flew by. quite literally, everything for every conceivable aspect of fly-tying (or dressing) was there to be studied, discussed and absorbed. Even to just look around and soak up the general ambience was wonderful!
The very best thing of all, was meeting YOU!
Until yesterday, I never quite realized, just how many lovely people there are in the world-and to think, that we are all bound together, just by a gossamer strand of thread..
So...thank you, each and every one, Daz, Steffan, Tigermoth, Shocker, Cap, Hoppy,SMW, Norsy, The lovely Foxy-Tails and so many others who I apologize for forgetting..just for being there. To everyone else, who will be going today, or cannot go this year, I hope that we can meet up one day and that it will be like yesterday.
Memories of the day? Having a fly especially tied for me by Marc Petitjean, and set on an autographed card for framing,-what a skilled chap he is-as are all the other many dressers, who gave up their time to chat,
...but most of all,.. seeing you.
Lets do it all again next year!
David.

Well - I got there today - next year I'm not going to say which day I'm going - on the off chance I get to turn up on the same day as the rest of you B*****s!
Anyway, it was good to meet up with Alun and Jonathan - (JJI - nice flies for the Salty Swap!).
This was my third visit - and the BFFI just seems to go from strength to strength - the opportunity to watch so many great tyers at such close quarters and chat to them is just too good to be missed - brilliant.

Sorry I missed you PaulD!
Visited the show on Saturday and have mixed feelings really.
On one hand it was gr8 to meet up with TT, Daz, FoxyTails, SMW, (The member that was Norsy), Tigermoth, Quicksilver, Watermole, Shocker, Bobronte & mate and Andy Cartwright.
The tyers were also brilliant, i even learn't how to weave!
On the other hand the retail side of the show was somewhat disappointing - mainly due to the light levels in the marquee and the layout. The Lakeland stand was huge, but fragmented into alcoves! There weren't too many bargains, and to be fair a lot of the stuff was expensive. Most impressed by Celtic Fly Craft though and by Chevron Hackles - Chevron's dyeing was out of this world - but £30 for a Guinea Fowl Cape was out of my league.
Also impressed with a Scott 2wt rod - 6'6 fibreglass and as strong as an ox - you could bend the tip to the butt!
Bargains of the day were Squirrel tails and a Waterworks reel.
Nice to See Roman Moser - funny that Daz asked him if he knew anything about leaders and gold heads!
A good day out though and a good craic!
Hoppy

Got to agree with you there Fella, it was good to meet up with acquaintance's new and old and it made a very enjoyable Weekend, The show on the whole was very well organized, but think it is maybe outgrowing itself, in terms of space allocated for the numerous trade stands, There must be a change to this, as it was all very claustrophobic once in among the various stands geeking for stuff. The location at Trentnam Gardens is the perfect place, being both nationally central to all, and handy just 5 mins off the M6, just another one of the marquees would of made all the difference. On the purchasing front, mine were very conservative (until we stopped at ASDA for the evenings refreshment requirement), just a few packs of hooks, dubbing materials, tinsels, wires etc etc, what I did manage to get hold of was a Spencer neck cape (dyed) for £10 I got this from a bargain box, I thought at first it was a good buy, and now having got it home and had a very good look, bent a few of the hackles, I reckon I got the bargain of the day. (even better than Daz's multi net deal) ;D ;D The lighting was very poor like hoppy has stated, and maybe Yorkshire Angling graded the cape S*!te in the bad light, anyway their loss & my gain. Again great to meet up with all, especially the young Lads whom I spent most of the weekend with (THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE), I thought Id grown out of getting these complex things, but alas it has all gone tits up again and I'm now seeking Medical assistance ;D ;D ;D, There is only one real cure though, but if I was a gambling man I wouldn't put my shirt on it . Great to hook up with a few of the guys, not to mention the elegance and entertainment value that is "Foxy Tails" - marvellous lady! ...which reminds me. Sue and I were deep in discussion about food and the need for a "Thought for Food" sub forum on this place. How's about it Hoppy. I'd be happy to contribute a few winter warmers - including the recipe for my very famous Traditional Dymock "Japanese" Plum Brandy

Superb day out, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Superb to meet up with some familiar faces, as always. Great to have put some new faces to the names too, including a couple of gents from the West Country; Watermole and Shocker - gents of the highest order. Thanks for the scrumpy shocker, worked a treat Hoppy' still not missing his Sage. Some good stalls around, but not many bargains they seemed more expensive than their normal pricings! Black squirrel tails 3 for £5 wasn't too bad though, thought it rude not to have 6 ;D Looking forward to meeting up soon guys. TT.

I see trouble ahead! ;D Thanks again mate, flies will be sorted. Shocker kindly brought us some home-made scrumpy, which Daz and I had more than a few glasses of. Great stuff too. TT.
