We had a Vartry anglers meeting last night and we discussed having a group of two or three welsh anglers over(the reasons that i said welsh is because the founders of the river were welsh and the name is welsh) to fish the vartry for the first time with the nets off it would be in july/august. This is just to see if anyones interested it might or mightnt go ahead. p.s. its a very small river so 7-9 fott rods are neccesary. fish are also small but if we get a decent run we can get as much as 3 fish each per night.it would be good craic. cheers ryan p.s. sorry again about it spacificly being welsh but thats what i was told so dont shoot the messenger
anyone interested

Morning all.
I have to say it seems very strange to me that any fishing at all is going to be allowed on the river you mention. Are you not potentially going to cause all sorts of unrest in the surrounding area if only the conservationists are going to be permitted to fish c'n'r? I am not saying by any means that you do not deserve to fish, as it is probably solely down to you that there are any fish left in the river at all, but from the outside it seems to me a bit like some rules for some and some for others!
There is obviously very little trust in other local anglers for this measure to be taken? Will these anglers not be infuriated to find out that some can fish, whilst they can't? I know I would be upset if I were a law abiding fisherman in that area! Also, if the river can take c'n'r, why was it not in that category instead of one where all fishing is banned?
I am only raising these points as a matter of interest, and am in no way having a go at the conservationists in point, but it just looks a potentially damaging precedent to set.
Good luck in finding your Welsh travellers anyway!
Oscar

That's great ryanol, I'd love to take you up on that but I'm likely to be in Wales through to autumn. The Teifi Rivers Trust are doing something very similar, currently we're organising exchange visits with members of the Suir and Nore rivers trust in south east Ireland. We hope that these exchanges will give the Irish lads a chance to get to know our river which will enable us to work together on joint funding bids for river restoration work in the future - and as you say it'll be a good craic!
I hope somme of the forum members take up the kind offer which your club has made, it's a nice gesture.
Any idea of the meaning of Vartry?
