Steff, Dabbler, Hadyn (steff's dad) and myself had a bash in the saltwater last night....another cracking trip!
We had a good number of good sized Garfish - all around 2ft long, all on the spinner. There were a good number of fish around, including some monsters!
I managed a Bass around the 2.5lbs mark and then proceeded to loose two others in quick succession.
If you want good sport, target garfish, they fight like stink!
Nothing on the fly, bar a few takes.
Hopefully a few pics will be posted by Steff.
Good company & great fishing

Hoppy, I thought we were re-naming the forum; the sea-trout and garfish forum ;D What a cracking day, and a cracking place. Beautiful scenery, and some excellent fishing - shame the bass didn't really show, there's always next time Here are a few photos from the day: If you ever get a chance, go Garfish fishing! They will usually be accompanied with mackerel or bass, or both. They are amazing fighters, very acrobatic. TT.

Thanks again for putting the photos on, I did two 3am shouts this week on the bass..really made a nice change caught 15 bass for the 2 trips 10 first morning and 5 the next lost quite a few to poor takes, the second morning was flat calm so I think they were put off a bit ..and back home by 8am. I didnt take the fly rod I whosed out... all the fish were taken on jointed rebels, hit quite a few gars as well on poppers but they didnt hook up well enough. Since the rivers are low and the thought of rain is just that a thought... I think I will carry on with bass till the next flood if it comes this year..something to remember for my next trip they have spikes on their gill plates which i'd forgotten about. Glyn.

Nice work Glyn! well done you, sounds like you've had some great sport. No probs about the pics, force of habit Were you on the South or West coast? Many fish topping? and, more importantly, any garfish about? TT.

Hi TT, yes had some good fun..I saw more gars on the first morning there was a bit more chop no much but enough to unsettle the water. I missed quite a few of them the trebles on the poppers were a bit to large for the gars to get around, the hooks on the plugs were a bit smaller and some stayed on better but came off at my feet. I find here like in majorca that garfish prefer poppers to diving plugs, I need to get some smaller ones for them maybe 2-21/2", as to the area I fish mainly from Mumbles to 3 cliffs I have a few more places in mind further along which i'm sure will produce well. The fish I caught and saw splashing and chasing sandeels were well within casting range of a flyrod as well and I will take one for a bash soon.
I am hoping to get out one eve this week and I hope this weather stays for a while as it keeps people away from the coast.
Just of interest for you I try not to fish water deeper that 5ft I find I do better in the shallows. Glyn

We had go around Aberdyfi and Twywn the week before last. With the rivers being low it provided a worthy alternative. We had mackerel, garfish and 1 bass. Many follows from both garfish and bass but they were a little reluctant to take. The bass came to a long tailed brown, weighted 'sculpin' type pattern fished hard on the bottom. I wish we had those numbers of bass on the North East coast. And I'll be back soon for a crack at those MASSIVE mullet!
