Apologies in advance for those who groan at yet another new-to-it-all question, but it's a little more specific than that.
I have been more of a dry-fly brown trout man until now, but am enthused with the idea of sewin fishing. I have booked a week on the Teifi in late May and am tentatively putting together some kit. I don't want to lash out huge wads on a rod/reel but by the same token have done a very little night-time fishing, love it and think I will remain with it. While shying away from spending large amounts on a premium top-end rod, I am thinking to buy a rod that might ultimately be a good second rod if I really get into it, rather than just binning it as a load of rubbish and starting afresh.
I like Scott rods and especially the look of the A2 10' 7wt (£235), which seems a stock, trusted steelhead rod in the States. I am also rather intrigued by the Beulah switch rod, 10'6" 7/8wt (£247). Also, the Bloke XL50 10' 7wt (via e-bay for about £130ish). There are many more, of course, from the David Norwich ev2 series to the Orvis Western, and so forth, so I should be grateful for any hands-on experience or comments/recommendations more generally.
Thanks before the event, J

Hi J, welcome to the forum, thanks for joining. Rod choice is a very personal matter, and what may suit one person may not suit you. i.e. I favour a more middle to tip action, whereas others opt for the faster rods etc etc. Have a read through this thread, which may be of interest: seatroutfishing.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=Tackle&action=display&thread=1196880045&page=1That may shine some light on the subject for you. I'm sure that all the rods you mention are nice rods. However, someone telling you that it's a good rod because they use it etc. doesn't really reflect on what would suit you. So the age old advice of 'try before you buy' comes into use, if you can. Best of luck. TT.
