Hi all,i have recently seen 'otters' mentioned in a thread for retrieving spinners and lures, shop bought ones are good but can be a dear option when you get a lure well and truly stuck and have tried to free it with an otter and have to pull for a break and loose both spinner and otter,so im posting a cheap and easy to make one,for the last 4 or 5 years i have been making mine from foam filled facia board which can be between 10 and 20 mm in diametre(find 10mm perfect)these are very bouyant and light in the pocket, and a quick shake after its been used gets rid of water so no more wet pockets like you used to get using the home made wooden ones, Otters can be made either round or square about 4" in diametre is fine with a 3" for rapalas, next drill a hole in centre of otter about 15mm will cover most lures with a slightly smaller hole for rapalas(10mm),next cut a slit from outside of otter to centre hole(about 2mm wide),next take a old inner tube from a push bike and cut a 1" strip and push one end in slit and other end on outside of otter so it can be pulled over slit to trap main line in centre hole(picture should make this clearer). works out about 20p to make stumpy.....
