I thought i would treat myself to a nice reel but when i saw the price of the spare spools it worked out to over £500,with 2 spare spools. Can any of you guys reccomend a good light ally reel which includes spare spools? many thanks

Pritch, Although not expensive, I use four of the Vision Komas 5/6 and 7/8wt, they have stood me well and are excellent value for money and come with a good spares package.

Ive just seen the Vision Koma in my local tackle shop,it looks a nice reel, and at a good price. The other option i was thinking of would be to use one good real and a multitip line.Ive just been looking at the Rio Versitip line. Anyone have any experience with these lines. I would be River fishing for Seatrout in wales. cheers

The Koma is a great reel for the money but is has one flaw. The slightest knock on the rim causes it to go tight in the guides. If this happens don't atempt to nudge the dent open with a screw driver, it will crack. Better to to take a file to it and take out the high spot.

Not on these lines Pritch, I now only use Snowbee lines of which I'm a big fan.

i will agree with all that is said about the koma vision, i am the proud owner of two 7/8 and a 11wt, replacing my greys g-lites which lasted a couple of months! absloute rubbish. If you want to go a bit more expensive, the vision XLA is a stunning bit of kit. After only using cortlands for years, i tried the xs floater out this year and have found it a brilliant line, not to clever for the short cast though!

Bought a shakespeare pflueger trion this year, its a lovely reel and I can't fault it.However, the sizes are a bit misleading. The 3.5 " [2856] is supposed to take a 7/8 line but I loaded mine with a 7# and couldn't get enough backing on .Wish I had bought the 2857 which is supposed to be for 8/9#.As for performance the reel has a lovely smooth clutch and has handled a couple of double figure salmon with no problems.

Trions are very underated though I agree the sizes are misleading.I too bought a 2856 and found I couldn't get a WF7 on it.But with a WF5 it goes a treat on my 10ft 5 weight Streamflex...and what a piece of kit that rod is !
Never understood why Shimano's are not rated more highly.I have a couple of Ultegra's and a Biocraft LA and they are all terrific and very reasonably priced compared to many.Look good too.
Cant argue with the comments on Koma's though.Hard to beat at that price.

Ive just ordered the Vision Koma. I nearly made a silly mistake by ordering 2 extra spools for £46inc p&p when you might as well have another reel inc spare spool for £56. Now who's a clever boy then?

Get an Ari Hart Te or a Daniellson loop or even better a Cascapedia MK2, got all 3 and they've work well here and in Canada. The Visions are I think cast frames and made in the far east.

Have recently purchased a s/hand Sharpes Mentieth fly reel with spare spool in black.Very well made.Excellent drag and you can switch from lh or rh at a turn of the knob, without removing the spool etc.
