william joseph for me , less bulky , i suppose it all depends on how much you want to take to the waterside with you, the fishpond looks ok but is very bulky round the waist . all i need to take with me is, leader x2, spare spool for reel , box of flies x2 glasses, snips ,small torch ,phone and drink and maybe some sink tips , i think the fishpond will take everything you have but its william joseph for me billy p

Why restrict yourself to one? As buzzerman says - it's horses for courses. For nighttime sewin I use a William Joseph Solo chest pack. Holds everything I need - keeps me mobile - and when it feels suddenly light - I know I've waded deep enough! Then, for nice days wandering streams I've got a Fishpond, Crooked Island - what the Americans call a Fanny Pack - nice feature is that it carries a drinks bottle. For longer treks into the hills etc I have a Fishpond rucsac come vest that will hold two rod tubes and a deal of gear / food etc for a day out. Couldn't possibly cope without all of them!

why not have the two indeed ,i have a clear creek waist coat /come chest pack were a lot of the pouches are removable along with the fly box's for when I'm taking the kitchen sink ,but i don't like to be cluttered up on my casting side by the time you've got your net on your back thats as much of a restriction as i can bare ,most of the time i just use a clip on center pouch [vision ,]which came with the waders although its a great idea i have still to find a strong single clip on chest pouch any idea,s please billy p

Billy - check out Cabelas and Bass pro for your missing link. Paul - nice touch about the sudden lightness... May think about two but then I'm remembering how many Lamson reels you have and realise that the Lord-High Tackle Tart had replied! Will think about the rucksack combo and a lighter pack - good heads up, thanks. Now where's that letter to Santa I'd started...

JT, I have two WJ packs, the coastal and another (can't think of its name). The Coastal is very good, loads of space and fairly compact - i do love it. I have added a bladder and Hydration tube to it - which stops me carrying around loads of bottles of diet coke! Cant fault it really, loads of zingers, pouches, pockets etc etc The Fishpond jackets are too 'bright' for me - whilst i am a tackle tart, i'm not in PaulD's league ;D - In fact i like to refer to Fishpond kit as Fishing Drag! (as in Drag artists) Hoppy ;D ;D

JT, Do have both the coastal and the solo, and both do every thing i ask of them, tend to use the solo for night work, as try not to have to much clutter at night, and the coastal i use for all day fishing as it has a hydra bladder that you can fill with water or other types of drink. and it Carry's all you want for a days fishing.. I don't think 7 is excessive! 7 is a lucky number and I also have Waterworks thermal under wader wear! Tackle Tart! I hate that expression - Tart yes! ;D

JT; I have the Coastal, and they're 'ok'. Personally I find them a bit bulky when the pockets become full - they protrude a bit too much for my liking, and can get in the way. Their chest-packs are better, and tend to confine the bulk more towards the centre of your body, thus allowing plenty of room for manoeuvring your arms etc.
A mate of mine used the Fishpond, and he gets on with it admirably - a bit more storage space too, from what I've seen.
TT.

Got a deal from a US supplier on a windwalker chest pack and open range vest for about £75 all in (brother is smuggling the kit back in a fortnight)
I chose Fishpond after all as I figured should I have an accident then my address (Fishponds, Bristol) is plastered all over the things.
Thanks for all the input.

Dai, - I had to buy my hydration kit extra? Did yours come with one? Hoppy Hi Hoppy, Like you i had to buy hydration kit as a extra, but did not buy the William Joseph one as it was £12.99 plus p&p £4.50, i had my one off ebay from hong kong for £1.99 plus £2.50 p&p, do find it very handy for day fishing have been fishing for Grayling the last six weeks on the Wye, Ewenny and the Taff. And its easy to have a drink with out getting bag off and looking for a drink, just put tube in mouth and you have your drink.. by the way Hoppy have got to grips with the Grayling have had about 100 fish up to 1lb 12oz, i am on the Wye this weekend coming plus on the Taff in the morning so with a bit of luck will get a bigger one fingers crossed.
