Hi Paul, the Reddington CPS 9684 8wt 4pc 9'6" does have a fighting butt, www.redington.com/view_image.php?im=/aimg/x2_RDT5-2007T001.jpgA nice rod which i have used to catch Steelhead up to 12lbs with plenty of power to spare. I use sink tips up to Type 8 15' long and it had no problems throwing them. This is what Redington says about the rod: ULTRA-FAST ACTION CPS Rods win 2007 Kudo Award from Fly Rod & Reel! Now in their third year, our Core Performance Series (CPS) rods deliver and we challenge all anglers to put them to the test in whatever conditions you can conjure. CPS rods are built for precise casts and battling big fish, and will put up a pretty good fight to be your favorite rod too. More CPS Details: Green blank with silver Fuji SIC stripping guide rings, Titanium frame and snakes Super grade cork Nickel plated reel seat with rosewood insert seat on freshwater models (handle A) and black corrosion resistant anodized aluminum on saltwater models (handle B) Awarded a 2007 Kudo Award by Fly Rod & Reel One of Fly Rod & Reel magazine's Best bass rods of 2006 2006 UK's Trout & Salmon magazine's "Best" award 19 models in 4-piece only, 3wt through 12wt, plus saltwater specific 6wt.
