I'm looking for a sink tip line for fishing the Towy and was wondering if anybody could recommend one please. What speed of sinking tip should I be looking for? Lots of intermediate tips on the market but expect I should be looking for something with a faster rate of sink. Any help greatly appreciated Cheers Paul

Have a look at the Cortland Ghost Tip - the one with the clear, 15ft tip. It says on the box that it's an intermediate tip but I've always found it to be plenty fast enough.

Agree with you there MR DUNSTAN,nice line, but found i had to really stretch it a few times, then it seemed to cast ok(might have been my casting).use it all the time now,and then go onto a full sinker later on in the night and carry a floater for jambo etc.
stumpy...

And then there's the Climax ghost tip, 9' clear Intermediate, rocket taper, 30yds ...again fairly fast, casts well and you can pick one up for around £25.00... Si

Si Made by "CORTLAND"....Basically,it's a "Cortland ghost tip" with a nine foot head. DAZ. P.S....Not the best casting line if your looking for big distance...It's a struggle to get a full line out with this one.

Many thanks for the advice, I'm going for the Sewin Caster line with the type 3 sinking tip. Will post a report on it when I get it wet. Cheers Paul

Hi 666Shaft, for a sink-tip that's faster than the intermediates on the market I think that your best option would be the type 3 sewincaster lines. Have had a chance to have a bit more of a play with it now and it does perform very well I must admit. Your other option would be the scientific anglers wet-tip. If you opt for a sewincaster line then the 8 line matches the 8 rod no problems at all. However, if you go for the climax (a cortland, as Daz correctly identified) or for the cortland ghost-tip you may want to overload them by one. I must admit that I do tend to fish the intermediate tip most of the time and adjust fly weight and casting angles rather than line weight. Seems to work ok for me anyway, but I tend to be a little lazy TT.
