As I hope to be off on my travels again this year and I am sick of lugging around a six foot long rod carrier, anyway everyone thinks your a terrorist these days just because it looks like it could carry a weapon. Has anyone come across any decent traveller rods, I need to get hold of a fly rod #8-9 and a spinning rod 10-30 grams ish and they need to be short enough to fit inside my rucksack 2ft ish when apart.

Hi Riverkeeper I have an Orvis traveller - 7 piece, 9ft, 8wt and find it an easy rod to cast with and would be happy to recommend it as being well made and nicely finished. It comes i n its own small sturdy tube with individual pockets for each section and packs easily into a case or rucksack and would even go in a briefcase (bought mine on a trip to the States and have flown with it to S. America). Mine is set up with a loomis venture 7 reel and 40 plus 8 wt floater - combo works well. I have had 6lb + Rainbows on it with absolutely no problems, never had it come apart when fishing although this has happened to me on both my other 2 peice rods. www.orvis.com/store/product_directory_chart.asp?dir%5Fid=758&group%5Fid=759&cat%5Fid=6005&subcat%5Fid=7445(Checking the US website I see they now do a combo spin/fly rod but vshort.) Cheers Nightfisherman

Riverkeeper, I agree with Nighterfisherman about the Ovis traveller. I bought a 9 weight a few weeks ago, for the Denmark trip. Very pleased with it casts well and the tube is strong light and compact. For spinning I have a telescopic 9 footer bought from Aldi for £9 excellent performance if they have them in again I will by the 12 foot "carp" rod.
