;Dbelow is a picture of some large tubes tied for fishing on the severn on the lower river in the 2006 season, ranging from 2"to3"in size, these are fished using a pasternoster style set up.used instead of a devon minnow they allow the angler to fish alot slower and lighter in colder temps as well as giving alot more natural presentation,as well as being lifted to different heights as it swings round in the current, which means it covers alot more of the water being fished. They accounted for three fish upto 19 pounds, when fished in the above way. Also pictured are some balsa bodied condoms which are fished in exactly the same way as the above, helps to let the condom fish slower and deeper in the spring with less snag ups.The smaller of the two bait accounted for a 31 pounder from the lower severn in april this year. Also pictured are some normal condons with the new add on wings available from spintech, just a bit different. stumpy... .

Just found this. Great thread. I've spent a few hours talking on the banks to John Bailey son of the now departed Fred "the bread"Bailey, legendary coarse match wizard from the Kidderminster AA team and Severn salmon supremo. Fred tooktook some phenomenal catches of salmon from the Severn in the 60's and John had a few too.
John says that him and his dad did all of their salmon fishing from a boat below Lincomb weir. The boat allowed them to narrow the angle and fish the devon really slowly over the lies. It also made getting the Devon out of snags a lot easier.

Tom, have you never heard the phrase'DEVON MINNOW ALLEY'on the severn, minnows for the severn(black and yellow, black and orange) minnows for the wye(blue and silver, black and gold) the devon is a must bait for early spring fishing on the severn. . stumpy...

Yep, I've got a pretty big collection of Blue and Silvers, but nothing like that top one The report on the Severn from a Mr E. Pitt in the first ever Trout and Salmon (july 1955) reported that: 'The lures are usually homemade... colours are a variety of fancies, from an unlikely looking brown to the much favoured blue and silver'. Hi Guys, having filled 20 fly boxes with delectable, mouth watering, cannot fail lures.( Huh ) I have turned my attentions to spinners, just in case, you understand...decided to make my own as I can never find exactly what I want. Heres a selection of what i have made so far...... The first are 12 gm all silver, one with a gold blade. A blue bucktail , also a couple of double blade with the small blade red, I also have all silver mepps, the idea being I can paint the blade with any colour I wish, I intend to make a selection of all gold lures with the same idea in mind. and some different weights. I bought a wire former, but actually find it easier with my fingers and a couple of pair of long nosed pliers plus a nail. but hey thats just cack handed me... The two in the second pic are made very lightweight, hope fully to fish off a fly rod.. how succesfull is in the hope area as field tests are just under way. the one on the right is for a try at night and has a luminous blade of 1/2", I also have them with pearlescent blades and coloured blades....Quite a few condoms have also been done up to 28gm. So all i need are fish .

;)nice selection mate,i like buck tails myself(red and yellow with some gold krystal flash)..are they tungsten/nickel bodies on the bigger flyin c's.Its very snaggy were i fish and loose lots through the season, but think the tungsten/nickel weight finishes off the mepp types but will cost me a bomb :-/but am going to give them a try..

Stumps...I agree the nickel bodies look the part... but your right, they do work out pricy if a lot are lost, i just wanted all silver mepps, a bit heavier than the norm, i have a lot of different coloured blades and some gold bodies too... but i must have caught at least 6 to 1 on silvery mepps to any thing else, so my confidence rides high with the silver.. Si...
