Glyn,
I have had Airflo rods in the past and didn't like them, it was the old classic.
Im sure that they have moved forward in time, but once bitten....
What price are they going for?

Hi Hoppy i went up Fishtec this Saturday and tried the rod out, i was very supprised how well the rod performed i went for the 10tf 7/8 instead of the 10.6..it throws a line out like a dream one roll and two false casts and it goes out over the length of their casting strip my brother was putting 5/6 yds of line well into the trees behind the casting area while standing well back from the front of their cast area.
The finish of the rod was also good nice cork and a well finished blank with nice fittings and rings best £54 ive spent on a rod.
One other thing i havent handled a Loomis in a few years and was amazed how average they now look we took a few out of the stands and had a close look at them the rings were not the best ive seen in my time and the cork handles quite badly put together the thickness's were not uniform at all and the blank was just that ..a blank ,and after waving it about it felt like a average rod we couldnt see where £600 came into it they might cast a fair line but on looks these are £500 too much. cheers Glyn.

I have a Loomis double hander, its a nice rod, but not aesthetically appealling.
I do like the GL3 though, i like the matt black finish.
I did have a Loomis & Franklin fly rod, which appeared to be the exact blank, £70!
I think they are still around
Glad you like the rod, if it casts well and suits you thats all that matters

i had one of the old lureflash cobras given to me about 3 years ago, i've hardly used any other since, crap fittings, i have re-rung it with two stripping rings and good quality snakes, a cracking casting rod, but for river work i use two an 8ft lamiglas blank and a 9ft 6" lami, 5 and 6 weights, i've tried loads but these suit me and as Hoppy says if it suits , use it. (confidence again)

I remember when Lamiglas first came out and the problems they had with the joints, i always thought the blank carbon was very well marked and looked really good, are the blanks still available i bet they are not cheap now. I have to say i am well pleased with the Airflow and the ease it has in getting a line out i think it with serve me well on the Towy. Am i right in saying i cant quite remember but was'nt Woolworth one of the first places to sell carbon fly rods along side Mc hardys in the early 70's. cheers Glyn

Hi Glyn, i know several american firms sell lamiglas blanks, i,ve had mine a while, they are still available, but yes, quite pricy. i dont know about woolies and c.f. The first i owned was a daiwa carbon 36, like a barge pole but cast well, still have it. 30 years or more. S.I.

Hi Glyn, have used, and can recommend the airflo m-tec rods. Got on well with the 9ft for #6 (more mid-tip than tip action), decently made and not too heavy on the pocket. They seem to be discontinuing them now as they are being sold off fairly cheap. Steffan.

Yeah Steffan i think your right, as i said earlier for the money i think they are a real bargin i had the P.T. in 10ft i thought the 10.6 7/8 was too stiff i think it would make a good bass and single handed salmon rod, i could generate more line speed with the 10ft and was slightly softer. The Blank is well marked and it has decent fittings. I was going to get a new reel to match, but i dont like the new thin backing you have to use on the large arbor reel to get a decent amount on..i will stick to my old style reels with 100yds of 27lb sealine on it.haha
