I'm thinking of upgrading from my 10'6 Daiwa Whisker as it weighs roughly half a ton.
I've been looking at getting a Sage, quite simple because i've always wanted one. I've searched eBay and come up with a 3 piece 10' #6, is this suitable for Sea Trout? Any other makes/models I could consider?
Any advice is much appreciated.
All the best, Rhodri.

Rhodri
I am a big Sage fan, the XP is a lovely rod. What i would say is that the price of the rods usually is inflated as they have a life time warranty, however this usually stays with the original owner.
Make sure that you get a good deal, and preferably hope the rod's warranty card hasn't been completed!

Hi - to buy sage rods at a decent price go onto ebay the american site (usa) and look for traders with highscore(100%) you may have to pay import duty and tax but I have bought 3 rods from the states my latest was a 4wt sage xp @ 9' 4 pc this cost me with import tax £240.00 brand new as opposed to £645.00 in this country, but be careful only use pay pal to pay and do not go outside ebay. good luck !

I use an XP, 10ft, 7wt and I love it and I'm sure that the 6wt would be equally as good.

What about the loomis glx in 7 or 8 wt this is a very nice rod to use, powerful but very light and flexible tip to mid. not the cross current though!!much too stiff.

Also very, very nice. I have a Loomis IMX, 8wt, again excellent. It's best, if you have the opportunity, to try before you buy. The forum meets are great for having a go with somebody else's kit before sploshing the dosh! It's very difficult to recommend rods because 'one man's meat is another's poison', and personal preference, casting 'style' etc varies so much. Sage and Loomis are very good but so are many others, David Norwich, Bloke, Winston etc etc. In the final analysis, I like the ones I feel comfortable with and bu**er the label!

Im a names man myself!
I like a lifetime warranty so i go for sage, I have the RPL and VPS which i am happy with.
I have had a go with the XP and can say its a cracking piece of kit.......
I do wonder how the warranty's work when they come from the USA?
I also have a Loomis GL3 14ft - which is a nice rod.

I have to agree with Madcaster on this, I had a 9'6" #7 SP built by Foxons but replaced it with the XP equivalent.
The SP was a superb sea trout rod being a little softer in the action than the XP which I think leads to fewer lost fish and in all honesty, whilst the XP is a great tool for most occasions, I wish I still had the SP for sea trout.

SB - how does the Bloke feel compared to the SP and the XP - in between them in terms of action, or stiffer than the XP?

SB - how does the Bloke feel compared to the SP and the XP - in between them in terms of action, or stiffer than the XP? I've put a Snowbee XS #7WF on three rods to try them out in the garden and the 10' #7 and 9' #7 Blokes are both faster actioned than the 9'6" #7 Sage XP. I use the Bloke 9' on the Elwy when I need to roll cast under trees as it will shoot a lot of line and have the XP as my other rod. The XP is easier on a hooked fish although to be fair I've not lost many more with the Bloke.
