I'm quite a fan of the mini-isotopes used for night fishing, and have had some success on them. However, at £3+ for two, I personally find them a tad expensive. Has anyone been able to source them cheaper? The reason I'm asking is that I'm currently seeing a huge rise in larger isotopes (15mm+) on the market from several distributors, primarily targeted for the carp and sea anglers. Was wondering if anyone had seen any small enough as a viable sea-trout fly option (4mm ish)? Or perhaps I should try the 25mm version on a 3 inch tube Steff.

Steff, you remember we touched on this subject last year when you put me on to luminous powders. I haven't had chance to play with it until recently but the possibilities look very good. The powder comes from Canada at www.readysetglo.com and they do some starter deals in 1/4oz bags(plenty). I had six colours for around $25 delivered. The active glow times are very long compared to luminous mylar etc(hours for green and red, less for purple, blue and orange) and depend on the strength of the mix and what background is used. I was struck recently on re reading James Watham's book about the faith he put in adding eyes to his flies and intend to experiment with this next season. The fly above was photgraphed in shaded daylight without flash and slightly overexposed so that the rest of the fly is visible. The powder was mixed with std hard as nails, the tag is applied over silver mylar and the eye over black thread. You will notice the butt is slightly more intense due to the background. The rest of the body is black Rumpf holgraphic saltwater flash ribbed with silver oval, peackock herl butt, VGF breast feather hackle, black squirrel wing with GP toppings and tail.Smal JC behind the eye. I can vouch for the glow times, I lost a snake with similar eyes in a tree in the dark last year and found it an hour later on a second run down the pool peeping at me through the branches!.

Hey Tuniwes.
yeah, still getting some great use out of that stuff and it does work great.
Was just interested to see if anyone had seen the small isotopes on their travels. I'm sure that there wouldn't be much of a difference in performance or results from using the powder or the isotopes. But you know how us anglers are! gadgets, new materials, etc etc.
