Maplins, the electronics retailer, is doing a special offer on an LED Keyring Torch. Price £4.99 reduced from £7.99. The Maplin sale leaflet dropped through my letterbox this morning, so I hightailed it to my local Maplins after a telephone call had established that it had a couple in stock. But they're mine now, all mine... Order Code L76AH in the current sale. Code FM28F normally. £4.99 a go. www.maplin.co.ukAnd I really thought that I had got over my torch fetish... Still, I'll have to go out after sea-trout now...

Paul, As a torch addict, myself and Diawlbach will soon be setting up the T.A (Torches Anonymous). For better deals try ebay search for Red LED they have a fantastic supply, the keyring torches are 99p! I still have some from my last bulk purchse - RED is a must for night fishing...for those who don't know a Red torch prevents you loosing your night vision! For the Connoiseur try the below link, they offer a fantastic service and really good products. www.pumaknives.comclick Coast LED-Lenser Lights or browse!!!!!!! Hope this helps Hoppy

Paul
If you saw my now file-archived links to 'things that light up The Darkness', you'd be worried - you really would.
I mean, the impulse to fish - let alone to flash - is bad enough...

My next purchase will be a hurricane lamp (just trying some alchemy to turn the light red)... It will be of little use, but the fire and the noise.......... Well enough of that. Hoppy

Maplins 1 Watt rechargeable LED torch at twenty nine quid is the ultimate torch for me (for now) It's like a portable car headlamp on full beam and the best I've found (so far) leaving my once beloved Maglite in the dust as a kind of relic left bulbless and unused in the kitchen drawer after it suffered a nasty fall. As a back up I've continued the process of bankrupting and baffling the family with a nifty little environmentally friendly number illustrated here with handy descriptions for the colour blind . A little overpriced at this site www.thetorchshop.co.uk/wind_up_torch.htmlI bought mine for a tenner at a tool shop. It can charge your phone in case you need medical treatment after turning the night into day on the river bank.

Ah. but at three am, having heard the "Beast of Bont" in the bushes behind you, give me a 4 D Cell Maglite in my hand every day.
Less of a light, more of an offensive weapon!

Sign me up to the 'T A'!
Hoppy, I have a couple of LED torches, but they are too bright for fly changing. So I looked at the site you recommended and the following, @ $6.95 took my eye. At 2 1/2 " long it seems ideal for hanging round the neck and putting in the mouth for changing flies (I tried all those flexi types but prefer the traditional method). Is this the one you referred to?

Maglites?
Yeah, I've done 'em (like 12 - the old Normark UK, near Newton Abbot, at Trade, was my dealer at the time), but I could handle 'em (still do).
LEDs, though?
They're real heavy gear, Man.
There's a Welsh dealer with some really interesting stuff - Glastonbury nightlights, hip-wear and the like. I'd post their address, but don't want to see good 'friends' busted...
Still trying not to light up,

My name is Simon... and I'm a Luma-tic.
There got it off my chest, along with my Tikka on my head, which I love as its the only head torch which fits under the brim of my flat hat, my flexi head red in my pocket, and my mini maglight in my specially made vest pocket, Oh and the spare in my bag. I sometimes carry something - a bit special..........
Now I don't want to get you all slathering, but once a year on this ship of fools we change out all the industrial strength cylumes. Yes those 12 hrs of spooky glowing toys, of course they are good for ten years but someone in authority has to take them away. So at times I have bagfulls. Great for the kids at bonfire time, and good for marking your way back on really tricky night time approaches.
Also very good for putting the 5hits up other fishermen - I suppose if you were really nasty you'd drift them of down river. But I think swinging on some mono in the middle of a bridge arch would "move" most wary fishermen ............ errm, I would imagine!

A girl I used to fish with / who fished with me / was an extremely keen fisher and all that, but a very unsure night-time wader. So we both wore 12-24 hour, crunch-it-and-it-lights-up, red cyallume necklaces whenever we fished together - this way, I could see her at all times (which, I recall, wasn't too much of a hardship...). Whatever gets you through the night. PS - I'm away fishing now for a week, as someone I know has just had a near-7lb sewin and a double-figure (returned) salmon.
