Just been in to Gary Evans tackle shop in Cardiff. He's got some cracking waxproof Barbour Spey wading jackets. I have had a look on the barbour web site no info. Can anybody else suggest where to look. Cheers Aled
Already checked: Yorkshire, Glasgow, Tighlines, Bargani Tackle, cant seem to get in to McHardys.

Aled,
Make sure its not one of the old waxed cotton 'thornproof' type Barbour Speys. They are getting pretty outdated now and were always cold, thin and leaked. My mate has one, I borrowed it and we both hated it.
Any jacket in a modern synthetic & waterproof material has to be a better bet. You can get a good choice around the 100 quid mark these days. I see that Snowbee are offering 50% discounts on last year stock right now.
I appreciate that I might be barking up the wrong tree here - as Barbour may have used the Spey name on a new synthetic type of jacket. If that's the case I can't offer an opinion.

Hi Richard Thanks for your reply. Yes i had one of those waxproof things as well...this one is a modern version with a waxproof "feel". For some strange resson it does not seem to matter how much i spend on wading jackets they usually last three years (as do my waders) however i have found info on the jacket on Sportsfish. Its £159 thats too much to pay for three years use, i'll follow your advice i think Richard. Cheers Aled

Aled John Norris carries a lot of Barbour and does a lot of discontinued lines/bargains. www.johnnorris.co.ukOr if you know anyone who lives in Northumberland get them to have a look in Barbour's factory outlet in Alnwick- I hear there are some serious bargains to be had there. If its the Spey Endurance its £99.99 on there.

Aled,
If it's any help to you, I bought a Patagonia SST about 7 years ago - when they first came out. I paid nearly £200 for it then and was full of buyers remorse as soon as I left the shop, thinking I'd paid over the top for a fancy 'brand'.
Anyhow, 7 years later I can honestly say its been the best bit of fishing kit I have ever bought. Top money yes, but mine has been totally durable, is still bone dry and it has had some seriously rough treatment, including many nights as an impromptu sleeping bag on the river bank. It also works brilliantly, pockets rae in the right places, handwarmers that keep your hands warm. The cuffs are so waterproof that you can release fish under water and barely get wet.
So taken in the round, I've probably had better value for money than you, if yours have given up after 3 years.
There you go....and BTW I have nothing to do with Patagonia - just a satisfied customer in this case.
R.
