I was wondering if anyone could suggest a reasonably priced reel that could handle a rio grandspey 9wt. This is a very large line and i am having trouble finding a reel here in the states. I thought you all might have a suggestion, any links to websites would help.
Thanks Ditch

Shimano Ultegra, superb reel better than many at three times the price. The 7/8 should be around 60 quid.

The Grandspeys are huge lines and will eat up reel capacity. For the #9 you probably need to look at reels with capacity for a #12 line. Two reasonable choices that would probably work are the Tioga 12 with the regular arbour spool or the System 2 12/13. If you need more advice, try asking on the forum at www.speypages.com/board/ (hope Hoppy doesn't mind posting links to other forums). Otherwise get in touch with a shop that specialises in 'Spey' tackle, which probably means using mail order from the West coast where such things are more common. Two that are consistently recommended on the speypages forum are www.flyfishusa.com/ and redshedflyshop.com/ - no personal experience, but they are reputed to know their stuff and should be familiar with the capacities needed for the Grandspey.
