This thread is a review of a new reel which i purchased at the beginning of the season, and I feel I need to let you all know how good it has been.
I was first told about the reel from my friend Karl Humphries an APGAI instructor and fishery manager. At the time I was after a new reel and I spoke to Karl to get some advice.
He said that he would go for the Lamson LiteSpeed 3 for a good all round reel. He told me the story of how he actually came across the reel in the USA. On walking into a fishing store he noticed the Lamson sign next to a bin full of wet sand. On enquiring as to the reels, the proprietor placed his hand into the bin, dug around a little and retrieved a LS reel, which was covered in the salty wet sand! The reel was given a quick swill under a tap, and then demonstrated, working perfectly without that grind you may be familiar with when grit gets into the reel mechanism!
He said that the reels were easy to use, the drag was second to none, and the internal components were all house in a sealed fixture, which meant that the reels perfomance was not hindered by debris.
Well I eventually bought a LS3 in Smoke a dusky grey colour, the reels come in a hard wearing Guide finish, smoke and brass. (smoke shown below)
I have used the reel all season and I can say that it is a beauty, the craftmanship is superb, the drag fantastic and its retrieve speed excellent, it is also very light.
The new Lamson Litespeed is a true large arbor reel with a fully-sealed drag system and perfect for sea trout fishing, for years I have used and raved about the System2, but this no longer compares with the Lamson. Price wise they are cheaper than the Loop reels and Bayer and if only one person who reads this buys one, I will have suceeded in sharing some bloomin good information, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
