A new book has just been published by a guy who fishes the same rivers as me here in Devon. I think he has also fished in Wales. It is a very controversial book and none of the main fishing book publishers would touch it (it is said) because he attacks the designer label tackle mentality. It has been published by the Crapstone Press (the very same as in the Vinny AA ad) and is worth every £ of the asking price. The Sea Trout Diaries by R.W. Mountjoy contains some really good advice and probably is the first time anyone has attempted a theory that explains how a fish that is not feeding can be provoked into taking a lure. Great tactics and strategy and is an useful complement to Successful Sea Trout Fishing by Morgan and Harris. Interesting opinions on attractor or imitator flies. Read it - you will love it or hate it! I'm interested to know how the book is received in Wales - I get the impression that you all take your sewin fishing very seriously.

I think the author could be easily persuaded to make a donation if it would help support this excellent forum.
He is passionate about sea trout fishing and the book is a personal project aimed at continuing the WestCountry peal fishing culture. This is currently under threat as there are few youngsters coming into the sport. The knowledge of the fish and the rivers is not being passed down the generations and is in danger of being lost forever. The first aim of the book is to encapsulate the knowledge that was imparted to him by a past generation and share it with the next.
The author believes dreaded 'designer label' mentality is frightening away newcomers to game fishing and it has become branded as an elitist recreation. He is trying to address this describing how the application of a little knowledge can easily overcome a limited budget.
The sea trout diaries is being published on a shoestring with the hope that it will encourage debate and interest in the sport (alongside this web site). It is unlikely that it will generate any profit but the author will be making a donation to an appropriate and sea trout related cause.
