Hi All,
I'd love some advice....
I am thinking of spending some cash on a Scierra XDP reel and a multi-tip spey line, although I'm not knowledgeable enough to know which to go for.....there basically seems to be a limited range, with Bill Drury and Rio being the main culprits?
Does anybody have a preference or offer any advice?
Many thanks,
Oscar

Hi Oscar,
I used the Bill Drury multi-tip almost exclusively on the recent trip to Argentina/Chile, and I must say that I was very impressed! Before now I haven't been a big fan of multi-tips to be honest, but this one certainly does take some beating, and I was very happy with the results. Could handle and load most casts, and didn't hinge on the connection. Also, I didn't find the connection at all 'clunky' through the rings.
I was using the #8/9 version, with a 13ft double hander.
TT.

Thanks TT, just a shame that the one on e-bay for 80 odd quid is the Rio!

Just to confirm, it is suitable for Spey casting?

100% suitable Oscar - say it like this, if I can do something that resembles a spey cast with it then you should have no problems at all. Found the line great for most casts to be fair, overheads, snakes, speys, snaps etc. Just get the main belly out so that you are holding the running line - easy to spot due to the colour and diameter change - and launch it off that. They're not cheap but they are several lines in one, and you save a fortune on spare spools! TT.

Hi Oscar
I use the rio windcutter and find it excellent for my fishing needs. I have also used the Jock Montieth system which was very very impressive.
It is just a matter of personal choice, my brother uses the Rio skaggit which for big flies and in windy conditions is superb. If you get a chance try one.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go for the Bill Drury owing to the fact it sounds as if it will cope with not only Spey casting (which I haven't even learned yet!) but also overhead and roll, etc, which I imagine I will use more often.
On the same vein, anybody know any good Casting instructors! ;D

If you go on the Salmon forum they have a line pool with a shed loads of lines for you to try free of charge.
With regard to casting instructors where abouts in the country are you, also instructors usually have different lines and rods for you to try.
