One tip I have to give you about the flies you are tying for your trip is that it is best if the flies are slightly weighted. Using eyes like on the Graa Frede or Magnus or the shrimpy looking fly starlmagwonder made or epoxy for the stick on eyes on the flies DAZ and HOPPY made is the way to go. On palmer flies or flies with thick dubbing bodies like like the Fyggi it is a good idea to use 8-12 wraps of fine nontoxic wire under the dressing. Saltwater has a higher density/viscosity than freshwater and flies sink slower in saltwater. I emphasize slightly weighted, not too much or the flies will snag the bottom. You just have to get the fly down under the surface right after it hits the water so it does not skate the first 3-4 yards of your retrieve. If you make an average cast of 20 yards and your fly skates the first 3-4 yards your fly is not fishing effectively 15-20 percent of the time. And sometimes the take comes on the drop right after the fly hits the water and you start the retrieve. just a tip.

May I also direct your attention to this excellent website about the flies for sea trout in the salt in Denmark. The link will take you to the shrimp flies but at the bar on top you can see other types of flies. It should give you some more inspiration: kystfluer.lystfiskernet.dk/showfly1.asp?Type=Reje

Simple Orange Fly that I catch the majority of my sea trout on in the salt here in Denmark. saltwater hook size 4-10 (I prefer tiemco 811s size 6 og kamasan B175 size 6 Thread: red or fire orange uni tail: bunch of hot orange hacklefibres + few strands of orange crystal flash Large black Beadchain eyes Hot orange sealsfur/or synthetic dubbing Rib: fine oval silver Brush the fly lightly with a velcro dubbingbrush It cant get any simpler than that and it is a magnet for sea trout!

yes there you see flies for sea trout does not have to be complicated. I am fishing 3 days a week now and the fishing has been hard. I got 4 on my fist trip this year, but blanked the last 2 times. My friend caught one and the stomach content showed lots of shrimps so I tied up some more complicated shrimp flies. This shrimp pattern is my favorite. Sorry for the bad picture I forgot to adjust the white balance: but here is some more inspiration for your fly boxes

Those shrimp patterns really are something. I wish I could tie 'flies' like that.
Plase would you be good enough to let us have the 'menu'.
I was inspired by the snake flies and had a go, ended up OK I hope. You have managed to do the same with your shrimps. I would like to try and have a go.
Many thanks
Aged and stuck in the mud (usually)

Ok here is the tying instruction: Meny Hook: Tiemco 811S size 4 weighted with 8-12 wraps of nontoxic wire in the front part tying thread Grey or tan 6/0 Uni 1) Tie in a smal bunch of champagne polarfibre, can be substituted with teal og grizzly hacklefibre 2) Tie in some melted mono-eyes, couloured black with a permanent marker. Give the mono a little twist with a pair of plier so they stand out at an 45 degree angle from the hook shaft 3) Tie in 2 antennas made of stripped grizzle hackle stems 4) Tie in a grizzle marabou feather at the stem on top of the hook shank so it extends backwards (prepare the feather by removing the webby lower part of the fibres so it fits the hook shaft in length) 5) Tie in some fine mono for the rib at the underside of the hook shaft 6) Optional: tie in the tip of of grizzle marabou feather at the front to form the tail 7) use some tan dubbing with a few pearl lite brite fibres ( natural hare dubbing is fine) and dub the shaft, thickly at the rear and finer at the front. 8) fold the grizzle marabou feather forward, so it lies on the back of the fly and tie in at the front. 9) cut a 3 mm strip of clear flexibody/ or some sort of scudback, shaped to a point at the rear to form the spike between the eyes, and tapered to make it easier to tie in at the front. 10) tie in the flexibody at the front and place the rest on top of the fly(grizzle marabou feather) 11) Hold the tip of the flexibody at the rear and carefully rib the fly with the fine mono, making sure the grizzle marabou fibres are not trapped but stands out on both sides 12) secure the mono rib at the front (this is really important for the durability of the fly! secure the rib with 5-6 wraps and then tuck it backwards and secure with 5-6 wrappings before cutting the excess) Brush the underside of the fly with a dubbing brush to tease out the dubbing fibres finish the fly by applying some superglue to the tying thread and wrap the front. Do this 2 times and cut the thread. Optional: colour the part behind the eyes and the antennas with olivegreen waterproof marker Well I have to go fishing ;D

Thanks in part to seatrouthunter my Danish Box is getting fuller. The girl at Superdrug has been giving me funny looks; first it was 'Dancing Queen' red nail varnish and now I've been back for the black....

Sorry to inform everyone, but just had news from Seatrouthunter (supplier of a huge amount of knowledge, dvd's, and flies for our Denmark trip). He has been taken ill and is currently receiving treatment in hopital - hence why there have been no recent posts or people may not have received replies to their pm's from him. He wishes us well for our trips to Denmark, and informs me that he is being well looked after by some "very nice nurses!". He has been in for 2 weeks already, so let's hope that he will be allowed out very soon. I'm sure that we all wish him a swift recovery and look forward to seeing him back on here soon. Let's catch a few fish for him TT.
