As a member of the 'official, unofficial' Denmark party I am wondering about what stripping basket and net to take to Denmark. Should I get a Sshoot net and kill two birds with one stone? £40 ouch. Is it true that it's not deep enough if the wind blows? Perhaps leave the net at home as I'm not really going to mind if a fish gets off (easy to say now!) and go the conventional route... A simple, packable line tray and optimistically hope for no wind? £20 Take my rigid number as hand luggage? or even try one of these collapsible foam numbers ? £50, maybe not! Any tips or experiences with these various stripping baskets appreciated.

Cicada, i have tried loads of trays and dont like any, untill one of the lads showed me one he had made, square washing up bowl a small one a belt threaded through two slots in the side both near the back side of the bowl this is for the belt too go through and around your waist, the rest of the bowl was cut away to leave just the one side and base, where the back joined the base he had left two small triangles as supports for the base,,so you have a flat tray around your waist with the back wall of the bowl against the body as a splash back, holes where punched into the base and electricians cable clips linked through and left about 4-5" sticking up these stop the line falling / blowing off the tray, you can buy them like this but it's more fun and dead easy to make your own, its the best i ever used.

SV, thanks for the idea. I think making your own is an art form in some parts of the world, but I admit I took the lazy route have got one of the rigid bowl style and it has made a lot of difference for me when casting in the sea. The weed on the tideline doesn't catch the line, the waves don't take the line round rocks and the cones inside mean hardly a tangle when casting. Pretty good in a near gale too. I guess the Denmark coast will be pretty windy with a fair tide running.
I just don't think it will be easy packing a net and hard box, so maybe a small net and the open stripping tray is the way to go.
(That's stripping and 'Dancing Queen' in two days - yikes!)

Cicada you dont have to put the ties in till you get there making easier packing, if you make your own. It would be simple to make one that folded flat. i found the cable ties where better than the basket with cones i used to hate stripping trays bloody line would start to slip out everytime i had a fish on, used to end up all over the place when windy no probs now.

Home made Stripping Basket ! In my local fishing club I teach / helps our junior members one evening every week. We try to make everything our self from lures / flies even rod building. For a stripping basket we use one of these. It cost 3£ in Ikea If you look carefully you see it curves nicely so it fit any well build mature gentleman . We makes 2 models one as silverinvicta describe and one where we only fit the belt (then you still have a chair) But in both models we use something similar to the electricians cable clips as describe silverinvicta. We buy it in the store where Bob the Builder gets his tools and materials (I don’t now the English word for that kind of store) It is used for preventing flying rats (pigeons) to sit and shit over your house, it just a plastic band with plastic spikes We glue them one to the base of the basket with silicone mastic. We try to make them so they look like this one just cheaper for a 13 years old boy. www.fries-rods.dk/lang/dk/flexi_stripper.htm Se the movie down the page. It shows how it works. If you can not find the space when packing we can arrange it so you make an order to me and have them ready for you when you come here. Christian PS: there are coming 2 new fishing porno movies they have cameras under water when fishing see the trailer and learn a bit of Danish www.salar.dk/filmkliphh1.htmlwww.salar.dk/filmkliphh2kystf.html

Hi Cicada, personally I don't use a net - I don't know of any Danish Saltwater FF that does either.
Stripping baskets - once again I normally don't use one, however it has advantages if you use heads and nylon (lawson, amnesie, flatbeam etc etc) running line, also if there is a lot of weed floating in the water. Personally if I was limited to the amount of stuff I could bring (and you guys are) I wouldn't bother.

Christian Many thanks for the links and good to see you are encouraging a new generation of sea trout enthusiasts. I think you will find that Bob, Wendy, Scoop, Muck and Dizzy buy a lot of their gear at a DIY store (do-it-yourself) in english. That IKEA box would definitely fit the waist of most of the sea trout fishers I know!
Stuart (Watford 2 Blackburn 1 might mean something to you I think!)
Thanks for the tip off, I was thinking no net and I'll blag a cheap folding line tray from a mate just in case it blows hard or the weed is about.

This is the one I use, just an old sink bowl with a bungy threaded through that stretches and hooks on, very cheap & realible, but not very fashionable, Who cares. Starlmagwonder.

For a wading tray, the best i ever saw, and this could be an idea for Denmark, was a tray, made by Dick Walker of record carp fame, a great game fisher, he used a bicycle inner tube covered in a fine mesh netting fixed to his leg with a bungee or the like, the line is always wet and always casts better that way,as it dont tangle as much, and when deflated can be packed in a very small space and weighs nothing. clever guy Dick, think about it.
