Thanks everyone for your help....Hoppy I can appreciate your position organising all this.....I am more than happy to arrange my own flights/car hire etc (for me , Phil and whoever) I just need to know exactly where on Faeno Sund you guys are actually staying. What is the name of the fishing Lodge/Holiday Camp where you are staying?
Could you give me the accomodation details please?
If we can't get in at the same location, then I'll definately get nearby.
Thanks
Greg

Hi Guys as a frequent flyer between Norway and the UK at least 6 times a year i would advise you NOT to carry in your hand luggage reels and lines, any form of tippet material or even attempt to take a travel rod. Through past experience I have had the fly line and backing totally stripped from my reels at security check, also tippet material confiscated as it is classed as a weapon, it can be used to strangle or tie up as i was told. When confronted with this i asked what about a womans tights to which they had no answer to as i considered this to be practically the same.Travel rods are also not permitted for reasons as it can be used as a batton and weapon. After travelling back to Norway on the 11th of Nov after the BFFI this year the new security checks have also been enforced- One peice of hand luggage only, NO open bottles of drink, NO bottles of perfumes etc and NO remote control key fobs, so put your car keys in your suitcase otherwise all will be confiscated, if not you will not be allowed to fly. You will have to empty your pockets etc and put everything in to a small polythene bag. All drink purchased in Duty Free is put into a sealed bag once purchased and must not be opened before clearing customs at your destination, if so it will also be confiscated- Check out new travel restrictions which came in to play on the 6th of November this year. You should be able to find this out from the airline you are travelling with. Mobile tel are permitted. I have experienced this at Trondheim, Oslo, Kastrup (Copenhagen) and Manchester. One of our guides also experienced the same from Frankfurt.
Be prepared and have fun
Mike

As far as I recall, but I may be mistaken, the current coastal record is 36 lbs, and was taken on Funen, not far from where you will be fishing. Of course a fish of this size is not a regular occurrence from the beach, but May is a good time for big fish. They move in to feed on the herring shoals which spawn in the sand and gravel close to shore.
One always has the chance of a big fish on the Danish coast. a six pounder is nothing spectacular, nor even a ten pounder. Also, these fish are in absolutely top class condition and extremely powerful. The fight is quite astounding, and not to be compared with catching even fresh fish on a spawning run.
The open sea is of course an advantage in some respects, there are no ( or very few at least) obstacles to stop a fish running, but your backing line is also limited, so it behooves one to get control of a fish as soon as possible. A drag is is not absolutely essential, but some form of brake is definitely required, even if it is only your finger or thumb on the spool. Just letting a fish "have it´s head" is not a good tactic, you will be spooled, and unless you can turn the fish, it will either break you, or tear the hook out, especially if you have hooked it on a small fly.
A three pound marine sea trout in good condition is a powerhouse, with a tail like a shovel, and energy to spare. It is a mistake to underestimate such fish. A ten pounder is quite a sobering experience, and anything larger is actually quite indescribable, you have to experience it. You can not "stop" such a fish, you can only hope to slow it down, and turn it before you run out of backing.

I have spoken today with Steffen Hinchley the Angling Consultant with Havorred Fyn. Steffen was responsible for the angling guide and DVD.
He was very enthusiatic about our trip and said he will do all that he can to make it go well.
Steffen may be able to include a hatchery visit, talks from anglers and conference facilities for the group for those who are interested in Fly Tying. He will hopefully meet us at the accomodation and welcome us to Funen!!!!
He assures me that the fishing in May is very good, especially early morning and dusk. In the day time if the sun is shinning the Sea Trout fishing may not be too good, however there are large shoals of Garfish that take the fly well, and fight hard.
The most important thing to remember is to travel light and keep mobile. The wind is a major consideration when fishing and we need to find sheltered spots.
I will keep in contact with Steffen and keep you all updated as to the trip.
Hoppy ;D

Fellow Denmark adventurers, I have just looked at the 8-day weather forcast for Odense. The wind isforce 3 to 4/5, described as gentle to moderate breeze. Direction is all over the place, varying from s.east to n.west. Daytime temperature will be between 13 - 16C ( 55-61F) and night 4 - 9C (39-48F). Generally, a mix of sun and light cloud. I hope this helps deciding what to pack.
However, can anyone suggest how much we will need to cover car hire, petrol and food and will any or all of this need to be in Danish krone?
Advice will be gratefully received and looking forward to meeting up next week.
Regards and tight lines, Mike

Dangler,
I will be taking about £100 of Danish Krone, to cover hirecar, petrol and food. It might be that we need a little more.
I am having problems with my broadband at the moment and hope to put some new details on the thread asap.

Hope you all have a fantastic trip and catch a few. Hopefully there'll be a trip I can make next year.
I'll get no fishing this season - have slipped a disc.

Here is a link to a 10 day weather report for Odense uk.weather.com/weather/local/DAXX0024Ignore the UK start to the website. I find that this site is generally quite accurate, (or the UK,) especially for the first few days of the 10 day forcast. At this stage it looks as though we should have a warm dry start to our trip with reasonably light winds. It will be worth checking the site as we get closer to take off!! Brian M

Thanks Peter. Any reports on the fishing of late? or have the shoals just been building up off-shore in anticipation of our arrival? Have tied my first few flies for the trip last night, I now have 9 flies for the trip nothing like panic tying TT.

The seatrout around Fyn seemed to be concentrated in the Southern part of the island until recently, but now they`re all over Fyn. Since the garfish are practically everywhere, I`d consider fishing at night a good option for getting rid of them and getting some seatrout Cheers, Peter

For the garfish I understand that orange is the best colour? I have caught them before, but I can't say that I have actually tageted them. They are awesome fighters, and great sport on the fly-rod. I once caught one in Cuba where the wing of the fly had just got trapped in their teeth. As such, perhaps just some orange wool looped would work? much like catching marlin on a string, or eels on a ball of wool. Any particular flies that you would recommend? or will they eat anything that moves? Thanks. TT.
