Your right Mike a 7wt is OK for most salt fishing, But remember your talking about anglers here ;D. As some one who fish's salt more than fresh water my rod of choice is a 11ft 9wt but thats not to say a 10ft 7wt is no good for the job it is. But i think most of the guys are thinking about turning over large fly's . And to be honest i would not go and buy a rod just for this trip unless i was thinking of doing more saltwater fishing back home. But you no what they say , anglers are more easy to catch then fish ;D. Then again i will prob be the one with enough tackle for every one. ;D. Norsy. P.S welcome aboard it also helps if your a little mad like the rest of us. ha ha .

Hi Norsy thanks for the welcome and yes i am pretty mad too, on average if fish about 200 days a year and only have to walk 200 meters to the sea where real nice sea trout show themselves. Actually caught a small Salmon 2 seasons ago in the bay outside where i live weighing just over 3 kilos. Most Sea trout taken and seen around here can be within 10 meters of the land and BIG ones too but they are not so easy to catch. I generally fish about 1 hour beore high tide until a max of 2 hours after and the fish are just following the shore line feeding around spotted weeded areas. The only reason i was commenting is that the fishing is so similar in Denmark to areas i am fishing here in Norway i just wanted to offer some sound advise. I mainly use a 9ft 5wt unless there is some wind and then its my 10ft 7wt and thats more than adequate for turning over large flies. I actually use my 5wt for Grilse and Sea Trout in rivers and my 10ft 7wt for Salmon, no double handers at all as thats quite normal here. Also as Starlmagwonder pointed out you dont really have to cast far to be into fish, and quite often you can see them behid you dependent on the location you are fishing. As I'm new to forums i would love to know how to post pictures and could show some reel nice shots of Saltwater taken Sea Trout but i dont have a clue how to do it yet.
Whatever we should always be having fun doing something we enjoy.
Mike

Silver tourist is quite correct, under most conditions a #7 weight 9´´ to 9´6 is adequate. Especially at that time of year.
Very long casting is not usually required, the fish are often close in, but it can be useful on occasion.
As I already wrote some time ago, there are sometimes conditions when one can indeed use a #5 weight, but on a 3 day trip one can not be sure of meeting such conditions, so I would advise bringing a #7 at least, or whatever other seatrout gear you normally use.

TL MC ;DPrefer to use Sage 10ft 7Wt Xp -but is no use in wind > force 3/4 ::)usually step up to Sage 10ft 8Wt Xp / 9Ft Redington 8/9 WT in windy conditions ???Have also had to use 13ft B&W 8/9 norway - speycasting off rocky marks in ireland !

Thanks for the offer. I was hoping to try the rod on water before I buy. So currently I am trying other avenues, but again thanks for the offfer of help.

Hi Hoppy
Greg is a friend of Phil who is one of the late hopefuls I mentioned to you...the other is Gareth Williams who also posts on the forum . Neither have computer access at the moment due to house moving and holidays but they're very keen!. A total of three extras inc Greg, if they can be squeezed in!.

Blackbob,
Im really struggling here, we have accomodation booked for 18 persons, and 17 have got flights so far!
The organisation of the trip has been a challenge in respect of numbers etc.
If the people still want to go, i can give them the details of the accomodation and the hire firm, but i cant (personally) arrange the trip for anymore.
If they are prepared to email the accomodation and arrange a hire car themselves that would be fine!

If I might presume to explain that in a little more detail?
The prices are based on the price per cabin, and the cabins are set up for six people.
Changing the numbers to anything other than a multiple of six changes the price considerably for all involved.
If you can get six people together, it should not be a major problem though. It might also be that the camp we are using has smaller cabins for three or so, I can´t remember, but the prices will then differ!
This is a problem with this type of group accommodation in Denmark generally, as this method of pricing is the usual one.
Also, Paul has now reserved three cabins, it is not certain that he could get another one.
Above a certain number of people, other problems also arise, and change the logistics of the whole trip.
If we had set up for say thirty people to begin with, then we would have done some things differently anyway, and would also have obtained better prices to begin with.
This is impossible to renegotiate after reservations have been made.
