Hi T T, perhaps you can help, living where i do there are no decent tackle shops, and even using the net i can't find many different coloured mylars, and the odd ones are never the small size. Where do you find yours please? John P. ( can anyone else help as well )

Hi Silverinvicta, Stargazer and Hoppy were on the ball there, and I would second their suggestions. I too live in the back of beyond. This has its advantages, and sore disadvantages - one being the lack of decent fly-tying shops! However, a great one stop shop for me has been www.lakelandflytying.com , they have the most comprehensive range of materials in the UK. They're not always the cheapest, but they are efficient. I mentioned that I use the partridge straight eye doubles for tubes, snakes etc. Lakeland are running an offer where you buy 4 packs for £10, and you get to choose the sizes. That's 40 hooks for £10, not bad at all. However, make sure that you order the right sizes! i.e. silly partridge sizing, not standard sizing! A size 16 double resembles a standard size 10 Why? i would love to know! as this range seems to be all over the place sizing wise, some are 'true' sizing, whilst others are just random. But they are a great range of hooks, can't fault them there. I think you raised the question about the longevity of the body materials, with fish teeth, clumsy un-hooking etc taking its toll. (it was either you or WH I think). Well, here's a couple of solutions for you: 1. Try ribbing the mylar/snake with fine nylon, probably no more than 4lbs line. You should be able to do this, and it shouldn't affect the action. 2. This is what I do/use, and it does extend the body life quite a bit. I use mylar that is intertwined with nylon i.e. the mylar is constructed of both nylon and flashy material, best of both worlds! These were designed primarily, I think, for saltwater patterns. However, I've been using them for around 3 seasons and they do the job superbly. They will not pull as slim as standard mylar, but slim enough. Here's the link for it: www.lakelandflytying.com/acatalog/search.htmlType in flexi cord It's called wapsi Flexi cord, and comes in some great colours it's not the cheapest, but it probably does save you in the long-run as it extends the fly' life. The size you require is the smallest, 1/8". Hope that helps. TT

thanks TT, i never thought of lakeland and i have dealt with them before, i've just ordered some stuff off Sid Knight, he said he'd post it off today, i,ll check lakeland out cos i need some more colours for some idea's i have, cascadecrest have a superb range but i was thinking of delivery times, iv'e had a couple of "baddies"in the past from the states like waiting almost a month, thanks for the other tips, i must be honest, i use a lot of soft materials in my dressings and know that they wont last as long as others,i think you would be hard pushed to find a fly with a rib,, unless it was palmered or a buzzer, in my box, and frankly i think a lot of anglers put far to much flash on their creations but thats just a personal thing one mans meat and all that, John P. Stargazer, i checked celtic fly craft but he did not have all that i wanted , and Sid had more of what i wanted, so i ordered it from him but thankyou for the interest. John P.

I'd like to add my 2p's worth on behalf of Lakeland.
I've only recently started to use them regularly and I'm very impressed both with the level of service and the range and quality of materials they stock - excellent and highly recommended!

Nigel at Lakeland has always given me good service too. I bought some BM doubles as well. They do look good with snakes, I have had a large stock of EZ body for two years and finally came up with a simple pattern I fancy on it
