I have had one for years, i thought i would give ian gordons spey line a try, well i am having trouble casting anywhere near the rio windcutter, so i have put my windcutter back on.

If it's a windcutter they are good with rods up to 14', or longer if filthy conditions. The sink tips are not the most delicate for presentation but conversely handle heavy flies well. I've yet to come across a bad spey line, the clever bit is choosing one that suits your rod , ability and fishing conditions.

Its a pitty you carnt test fly lines like rods it would make life alot easier,i agree with lamson your ability does affect how much line you can handle ie length of head.

Pat Mac, hi regarding your comment regarding the Ian Gordon line. Were you bringing the colour change down to the cork? A lot of people myself included have presumed the change should be at the tip, WRONG. Hope you don't mind my mentioning this , just could be the reason for you not getting on with a very good line.

Lamson ithink its to much line for me it doesnt seem to have enough weight on the front, your point is a good one but i have tried various methods, perhaps i need some lessons from ian gordon, or maybe i have just got used to my rio ,its the line i have learnt with and thanks for the info. Pat.

Blackandsilver,
I have used the Rio windcutter fly line for the past 4 years. The wallet containing several different sink tips are very useful and give you lots of choice in the depth you fish the flies. My set up, Sage TCR 14' DH + Reo line, works well for me. The loop to loop connection is very good. Have to say I would recommend these lines and sink tips 100%. Hope this helps.
Willie.
