stumpy... Stumpy, Is that you in full battle gear making a prayer to your sea-trout shrine? Is the David Miller print pointing in the same direction as your sea-trout mecca? ;D TT.

Thanks again guys. Having just been positively informed that we have Hazel trees growing at one end of the garden I have no excuses. Following SI's advice I plan to have ago over the Xmas period and see if I can come up with something home made.
One comment about the net is that it is a Mcleans weigh net that I have - after a couple of years and being dropped in water now and again (falling over in the reservoir -hence the need for a staff) it is the weigh mechanism and the stop for the telescopic handle that have gone and if you are not careful the head and handles part company hence the look for anew net.
Cheers Nf

The bottom one's a David Miller, what's the top one Stumpy? looks like a nice painting. I picked up this Norman Wilkinson Original last year on ebay, which I was well chuffed about. It was entitled boy fishing for sea-trout: Haven't seen it replicated in any books that he's worked on though. TT.

Bap - how do you make contact with them? They've undergone some changes and the website isn't fully operational... the rivets on the clip of my net have come off and if it's "unconditional" then I wan't 'em replaced!
Thanks,
Jon

Net For the last two seasons I have been using a gye style net bought in a Snowbee sale. It could be a touch bigger but I did manage to get a large salmon in it this summer. At night - I agree with Watermole - none can be too big and a little reflective tape on the ring helps you see where it is if it is black like mine. When walking the banks I use a (very light) rubber band to pull the net into a bun so that it does not get caught in brambles or pick up stray twigs. The band pulls free when you use the net but is usually lost in the water - I try to put a couple of spares in my pocket.
Wading staff I have only one beat that I regularly wade and have been using a telescopic walking stick. (Trago Mills cheapie) This does not need any lead to keep it down and the wrist band is clipped to the handle of my bag. It does not have the charm of the hand crafted version suggested by SI but I can collapse it and tuck it under the flap of my bag when not needed. nb I try to wear an inflatable life jacket when wading in the dark these days.
