Being a sort of low budget tackle tart, nothing to compare with the big boys on the forum you understand,I like to get myself a nice new reel each year for the new season.I find it gives me some strange kind of confidence and pleasure in gently caressing the new alloy(a man gets bored of sheep, eventually) and even some odd joy in the damage that results from my night time ineptitude. To the reel that is,I dont take that much pleasure in damaging myself these days..... Last year it was an Okuma magnitude magnesium LA and a Scierra XDA.Both were a little disappointing, clunky and heavy, but serviceable all the same. This year I was thinking of trying a Vision Koma 5/6.....any comments on weight, durability etc? I know theres lots of great kit around but I can only justify spending in the region of £50 ish. While Ive got some graphite reels for saltwater use I dont really like the feel of them,I know it doesnt make any sense but I'm happier with an alloy reel. And I like large arbors at the moment.I used to use larger size regular reels with masses of backing or the old intrepid shooting head arbors, again I cant explain the preference, could be fashion or anything, but I do feel that I need all the edge I can get.So I go with what gives me a bit of confidence. So,these Vision Koma 5/6 reels, any good or what?

hi Shocker, I am a big user of the Koma reel - a superb reel for the money & just look at the numerous pretenders now from the others . I can tell you that last year a 6/7 reel was brought out to fill gap from 5/6 to 7/8. Anyways get the 7/8 reel with your free spool then buy a 6/7 spool for smaller lines as the system was designed so the 7/8 reel will take the other spool & vice versa then you cover your sea-trout fishing & can just change spool & rod for river brownies ;D all without having tart sized handbags take all the room in the boot, backseat, etc.. .etc.. they have my vote of confidence. BB

I have used the VK's for two seasons now and am very pleased with them. Well made, reliable, and great value. If you buy, you won't be disappointed.

Well with recommendations like these from anglers who obviously know what they're talking about , i would think that lifts the reel above the decent to good...I think i will buy one.

You treat yourself Bap.You got to have a new reel to go with the new Rod. Great Reels for the money.I have had mine for the last two, maybe three seasons, and I can't fault them.Never let me down, five nights a week of abuse,Seven allot of times (I really should get out more ;D) and they are still sweet as a nut. Unless something a bit special comes out in the future,at the right price,I can't see me using any other reel. DAZ.

well,Id call that a vote of confidence its a VK for me.The interchange spool thing sounds good but since I mostly use an 8 or 8 and a half foot #5 or 6 would the 6/7 reel be overgunning the rod some?Have to check the comparative weights,if theres not much in it................................. I suppose the larger size is more versatile and gives more backing space for that huge fish of a lifetime to run its little heart out Thanks to everyone for the comments and advice
