Just taken delivery of a little small Stillwater version of the Scierra version of the C&F waterproof fly box.Seems OK,pretty much the same as the scierra one but olive rather than black.Under a tenner delivered.Comes with a neck lanyard,so seems like a good choice for night fishing and wading, small at about 3x5 inches. The object of these waterproof boxes is I suppose that they will float, giving you a chance to watch your flies decamp en masse to the estuary when you drop it in the water ;D Even so Im in two minds about a box that seals tight like this.I used one briefly last year and having put flies back in wet they stayed wet and rusted. The answer is to dry them first but there is what I should do,and then theres reality.I have been using the pressed foam boxes for a few years, orvis and cheapies, and they are good in many ways but wil only take so much hook-sticking-in...so ithought I'd try one of these new boys with slotted foam... Anyone got anything to tell about these

Been looking around and heres an update and some images; first the small stillwater box, slotted foam, with flies for scale and comparison the cheapy foam one,ridgey-fly-stickey-in-ey type and the scierra one, large, ridges and flat foam all three together for size it seems everyone is getting in on this C&F type box action, airflo have somewith foam and slots, also compartments but they dont give measurements,£20 plus.Scierra were reviewed in january FF&FT but no picture of the one aimed at seatrouters with some kind of wire bars on one side for tubes, sounds promising, again £20 ish but thats for the large as in the photo. You can be pretty sure that theres going to be more on the way.As far as the foam crushproof ones go,they're available all over the place,2 for a tenner often.Tacklebargains has a bulk offer if you buy 20,they come out under £2-50 each, ripe for a bit of co-operative buying

Sean it was the cheap one i was thinking off it dont look as though it would hold tubes i dont like the bar type, it was the slots i'm after.

Looking in the Glasgow Anguish Centres rag they show several patterns for the stillwater box withsome different combinations, slits ripples, flat foam and various hinged lid compartment.Might do for tubes, but in a 11x8cm box it aint gonna be massive ones!
