hi guys, has anyone out there tried the salar double tube fly hook, i am thinking of trying them on my shrimp style tubes, with normal tube trebles i find the long tails and feelers quite often get wrapped around the treble whilst fishing,so i thought i would try these salar doubles, or is it just my bad casting!!they certainly look good and leave the tail up and hopefully i dont have to keep checking my fly. sorry poor photos.

hi mate yes i used salar doubles on my tubes last year i found them a tadge heavy and very strong , i lost two good early fish on the dyfi i felt that the hook was to rigid and didn't give at all i have just got the new loop outpoint doubles goner give them a try this year also i have many tubes fitted with singles the slipstream plastic tube will accommodate a single double or treble with out the use of any tubing they will push in as far as you want so you can alter the length of the hook shank , tight lines billy p

Why use Salars on tubes, the doubles are curved shank and very heavy, i dont know how you'd get one into a tube, the singles are also curved shank, therefore pushing the barb to the tube side. They are too expensive for even considering this. I would not do it. They even have an upturned eye! The profile would be all wrong! The loop big mouth doubles are fine, as are kamasans et al. Hoppy

hop i never said use salars inside the plastic tubes you missunderstood me i know they wont fit properly , i said the slipstream plastic tubes will except singles doubles and trebles without the use of tubing the reason i dont use tubing is , a.its not so bulky at the tail end b,i can adjust the length of the hook therefore adjusting the lengh of the tube , nippers e.t.c. when they are taking short billy p

billy, last year I started playing around with different hooks on tubes after Silver Invicta sent me some snake singles.Since on my club water all bait hooks should be circle hooks I thought that maybe I should try them on tubes etc.I didnt have any fish on them (but no losses )but then I thought ,hang on,Im just using a longshank fat single here and gave it up. However, your point about varying the length of hook in relation to body is well made and I think i'll give the tubes and varied length hooks another go.It will save tying numerous near identical flies with different dressing lengths,I know lots of the lads will say,"what the hell,I love tying, the more the better...." but I'm too impatient for that,I like my flies to work hard for me!
