Hi All, Just thought I'd share what our fishing group (all 3 of us!) consider to be the best Flying C's available....anywhere. This is in terms of their castability, spin speed and tendency to spin as soon as they hit the water...and of course catchability! In our opinion they are unrivaled. We first came across them in Hewitsons tackle shop in Westport in Ireland, and then never again until my fishing buddy found one hidden in the depths of his tackle bag, and realised they had a website. Here it is.... www.quimperloise.comA bit more expensive than making your own, but we reckon worth it. Oscar

A friend of mine gave me a couple of condoms last season, which he bought from ireland and i found the hooks to be a let down, hooks were blunted easily and the points of the hooks broke off and snapped to easily for my liking, Have always tied my own as you can use what materials you like and trust(mostly the hook, most important piece?). spintec is my sole supplier now as all there components are top quality, also there condom bodies are latex which makes them very hard to rip etc,and they dont perish over time so you can re make any condom when the clevis and blades get damaged, also it only costs about 85p to make one. ready for 2007 stumpy...........

Very interesting. At £2.50 a go from Sportfish, even though I have found them excellent, costs soon add up! I see the lures you recommend Oscar are French. I don't know if they are the same but Ewenny Angling in Bridgend used to sell French Flying C's. With their slim profile they were easily the best attractors I have ever used but I gave up using them in the end as I felt the trebles were a bit blunt. I would definitely still use them if the trebles were top quality. Those are cracking looking home made lures Stumpy. Must have a go at making some myself. Is it possible to obtain clear idiot proof instructions with the kit for people like me? Looking at that box full you must be expecting some water this season!

HI wad, would advise anyone to invest in a wire forming tool to form loops etc on the flyin c's these can be purchased on there own or as part of a kit,as for instructions, spin tec do a step by step guide which is so easy to follow, once you have tied a few i guarantee you will tie a flying c in under 90 seconds,i will post a step by step guide as soon as i can. Spintec 01254 55871 www.spintec.co.uk for all tools and components stumpy...

Hi wad,i wont bother to post a step by step cuz it dont come any better than that link posted by wnion, only thing i would say is to incorporate a split ring in with the treble so you can just change the treble if it becomes blunt or breaks(have to break down whole flyin c else). . taking it a step further, 2 bladed flyin c,use a smaller blade on the front as this doesn't cause to much water displacement which can stop the back blade from spinning. work well on the severn, stumpy......

Thank you for the information everyone. Stumpy you are spot on about the split ring. Very frustrating on shop bought Flying C's that you cannot replace worn out or dubious quality trebles.

The best flying c i've ever seen is the French Super Cybele size 4. I have loads of confidence in their use. I have not seen them for sale anywhere for many years, and i'm down to my last one. If anybody has seen them for sale anywhere please let me know. Cheers Aled

I make my own and buy a few as well. I bought quite a few of the Lureflash ones last year, which have a nice slim profile but a bit of a flimsy build, however I only paid 99p each for them so that wasn't too bad. As I've said on here before, a variant I build with a gold or silver mylar body has outfished any other colour for me, the only downside is that the mylar frays and they need to be rebuilt regularly but after two or so fish the cost of 4 inches of mylar and a new wire pales into insignificance.

1's that don't get you into trouble ;D originally used the Kilty variety but were bloody hard to get, then the Cybeles as thats all Ireland was flooded with. Have used the Spintec 1's but didn't really take to the latex body and noticed colour leeching/fading throughout the day etc. maybe changed now Do take note there are cheap Flying Condoms coming out of Ireland but I personally don't have faith in them. they seem to be built to a price - i like a decent tail etc & the tail nipping claim doesn't wash as as the inital hit is head/midbody if you ever view clear water takes. I get mine from a guy that makes his own & have never had any bother, £1.50 each or 10 4 £12.00 ;D Aled what are you looking for there is some not far from here BB

I haven't tried it myself but have read that some forum members use clear heat shrink tubing to protect the mylar on their tube flies; this might work on your flying c variant. Apologies if anybody has posted this site before, just come across it . They seem to have all the kit required to make spinning lures. www.fishingpool.co.uk/product_home.php
