I think Silver Toursit hit the nail on the head with his post, the lights in the lamp are ok, but you have to position your fly at odd angles to illuminate it! I found i was looking up all the time.

your right mate but easier than having the lensor on no pleasing you these days my man, Bill, i am somewhat of a 'light tart' and have tried numerous options, from small maglites, to petzl mining lights, to energisers, tikka, led lensers, led aviators etc etc. I have also tried the cap lamps, both integral and clip on. I was giving feedback as to my thoughts, and the toughts of others in respect of them. This isnt about 'pleasing you or me' this is about HONEST feedback of my experiences with lights. Im sure that people can make their own minds up, especially when so much has been discussed. Hoppy

If you are not a 'torch tart' and wish to change your white led to red then try this link for Deka's solvent based transparent glass paint... being a tight bugger I did this on mine and it worked fine for me last season ;D You'll need to copy/paste these links I think i3.tinypic.com/29bir2a.jpg ... my 'sewin' torch I also found that when I was trying to tie 'bugs' for Denmark it gave the silver bead eyes a nice 'morning after bloodshot look' ... it looks to me a very natural sight ... must be the company I keep i13.tinypic.com/4bei8n4.jpg ...for my bug effort www.candlemakers.co.uk/misc/glass.html for the product... while i agree with what the hopster says about the cap light my train of thought was if you are carrying a spare torch and you wear a cap then why not have the spare light on your head , job done the leds are not over powerfull i myself use a led sensor head light superb but again not to everybodys liking with the red and white leds i do not sell them i make no money just seems like a great back up to me if any bodys interested here the web make your own judgement , cheers billy p www.wellardandscott.co.uk

An interesting thread - been watching but not posting. So thanks for the discussion everyone.
JP I like your idea of some red, some white. I already have the nail varnish (ssshh!) and think I've found a similar light for £13, so now there's another pre-season project to complete.

Red nail varnish needed replacing - thought a few Danish sea trout flies and the headlamp would benefit. Chose an appropriate red shade this morning, got it home and put on my glasses to discover I have bought 'Dancing Queen'!!

While on the subject of varnish, if you can get hold of bottle by "Constance Carol". i can recommend it. Its as good as "Sally Hanson",s. It's as hard as nails ( my little jest) and doesn't bloom in water. Has a good colour range and I buy it for a pound a bottle complete with applicator.a very good full gloss varnish. BUT this varnish is not recommended for use on NAILS ;D ;D . Maybe not, but a cracker for heads. Si. Please dont ask how i know it's not recommended for nails, i have to preserve my image
